he is a false prophet and teaches heresy. It may sound and look good and even make you feel good but after leaving a charismatic church that heavily taught that stuff, he and the rest of the word of faith health/wealth bunch should be avoided at all costs. stick with solid Catholic teaching while you are in RCIA and beyond. you don't need to eat garbage when you can eat real spiritual food and grow in real faith.

That is true.
Further, Joel and his family live in a mansion that is worth 10.5 million dollars. His book sales have reached $3,000.000. And I bet he owns a plane. Just guessing.
Never went to Bible training or Seminary School or college.
Osteen's preaching is liken to a concept from the occult world. Unfortunately Osteen's message is far more dangerous that his "cotton candy" preaching and he doesn't talk about sin. He talks about prosperity and wealth. (News).
Like others said> "RUUUUUNNNNN!". And I say believe in the teachings of the true Church and what God actually says in Scripture. Oh and continue your classes. If you're going to be a Catholic, you should study Catholicism. 
One more thing, our local Priests aren't wealthy at all and some live meager and have small Parishes. And they are well with it. I don't think Joel Osteen would not like living that way. Well, he doesn't.

I've seen bits and pieces of him on TV and I have to say stay away. His teachings are not at all in line with what you will be learning in RCIA. Like many others have said, you have 2000 years of things to read His preaching, in my opinion, is just a feel good message...like a motivational speaker! You will find much better messages, true messages in a homily. Good luck in your journey

As a Protestant, and a Texan living close to Houston where Joel Osteen is based, I need to clarify what you are saying here.
Joel Osteen is a good motivational speaker. He is however, not a solid or faithful preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. If you want to hear teaching that will lift you up, make you feel good, and almost convince you that God is some kind of celestial vending machine that will give you whatever you want if you push the right buttons, then he is the man you want to listen to...
If you want to hear truth, and solid theology from the pulpit you need to RUN as far away from Joel Osteen and his teachings...
Catholic or not, Joel Osteen's prosperity, health and wealth so called gospel is harmful to all who fall victim to it. It is not mainstream Protestant theology any more than Unitarianism is...
If you want to hear solid Protestant teachings, seek out well studied, and biblically founded teachers such as Dr. Adrian Rogers, Dr. R.C. Spraul (I probably misspelled his name), Pastor Ron Hindt (my Pastor), Billy Graham, and others.
A good test for any religious teacher is, where do they point? Teachers that point you to God, bringing yourself to get right, and stay right with him, and proving their teaching through God's words are typically pretty solid, but you still need to be careful, Protestant, or Catholic, there are deceivers out there that will try to snare you into a false teaching...

I can NOT emphasize enough, RUN from Osteen and the likes of him! No mention of the sacrifice on the cross, or the victory over the tomb, just push God's buttons and out comes a new car! or whatever...
Makes me shudder to think that people call hucksters like him Protestant... How insulting!

He is nothing but a Dr. "Everything will be alright" He is motivational speaker with a twist of perverted scriptural verses in order to tickle one's ears. I warn people to stay away from his sermons.

Go ahead and watch, he's good for a laugh.
Keep in mind that he's one of those "eternal salvation or triple your money back!" types. He personally doesn't beg for money publicly that I'm aware of, outside of shilling for his books and other material products and charging for lectures, but he has his sister be the heavy and she demands offerings and tithes.
The summary of his message is: if you have enough faith then God will reward you with material riches. Oh, you've been faithful for years and you're still poor? That's just God putting you through hardship to make you a better person (as opposed to being a victim of Joel's flawed message). But if "you" (read: Joel) does get rich and others are critical the his wealth being flaunted, weeeeellll, they don't know what you or your family (read Joel and his family) has been through. Maybe a grandmother sat with her cancer-stricken husband and God decided to reward the family by making the grandchildren rich decades later. A "generational blessing" is what Joel calls it. Anyone who criticizes you (read: Joel) for flaunting riches is jus jellus.
He's got a tidy little racket with everything sewn up on all sides with the money going one way - into his own bank account.

I like Osteen, no matter what anybody has to say about him. I often have a lot of negative going on in my head, so when someone turns on the TV and I hear him talking, he makes me think more positively for a moment.
But you just have to take what all these televangelists have to say with a decent amount of skepticism. Even Charles Stanley, I can recall, has had things to say that are contrary to the Church's teachings.
A good exercise would be to take what you hear from the TV, and ask your priest questions. Can never stop learning about God.

Jealous? To bad all his riches are not going to prevent him from dying someday and he certainly is not going to take it with him.

Seriously, why do you like him or what is the attraction for you? I came from a charismatic church that heavily taught that stuff. At that time it was his father who was around then (along with a bunch of others.) While he may seems uplifting and positive, it really is a false gospel. His positive type message can be very addicting. There are so many wonderful Catholic books and materials to read and study that it is better in the long haul to stay away from a false gospel. The trouble with heresy is that the more you listen to it, the greater the difficulty it is to listen to truth. The health/wealth God want you always happy will not build up your faith and when storms of life come, you will find your house of faith build on a pile of sand that just blows away.
