God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference

I've got the shorter version on my wall. It was a gift from somebody a while back, although I can't remember who.

I wasn't aware there was a longer version.

The Serenity Prayer was a gift of God to me, I learned it in Al-anon. Saying it frequently has helped me and given me peace through many unpleasant and even fearful situations in my life.

When my children became teenagers I put them in the Lord's hands and lived the Serenity Prayer--I did not spend my nights worrying about them, and breaking down the prayer into it's parts helped me decide what was important to address and what was something I could pass on. This, of course was useful in everything.

What a great topic!
