Your Home Altar is beautiful, I have been thinking about setting on up in my own home.

Re: What do youu think of my "Home Altar"
One person posted its not an altar. I've heard it called that, and I've also heard people say home shrine. Any definitive answers out there?

Re: What do youu think of my "Home Altar"
They said it was not an alter. Well, I'm thinking the OP knows this because they put it in quotes in the thread title. I personally wouldn't have the answer since I'm no expert. I wouldn't pick it apart. I'd just enjoy it. The OP seems very proud and happy to have it.
Very nice indeed!

I completely agree with you as far as the OP. But one poster said it wasn't an altar, but didn't say what it was called. I think its beautiful, not to mention the fact that it was even done in the first place. I venture to say God would be pleased with it even if the OP had called it an elephant! I just wondered if there was an actual correct term, that's all.

A very holy elephant.
I'm sorry...I think I came across as if I was saying you were picking it apart. I was speaking in general terms (The internet strikes again!).
That's a good question. I'd like to know myself. I guess it's one of those "call it what you feel it is" things. A personal shrine maybe? But that would be to one saint or Mary or Jesus, etc. I know if I had one my family would playfully tease me calling it "my shrine". I would call it my "cell", or "holly cell" because it would remind me of a quiet place like a Carthusian's cell. Someplace I can be close to God.

Re: What do youu think of my "Home Altar"
It is great to have a dedicated space.
Just be careful. You don't have enough clearance to light the candles, (need at least 2' from combustible surfaces) and the incense holder is pulling away with the weight
Not picking, but want you to be safe to pray many more years.

I've seen the term "home altar" in use elsewhere for this type of setup in the Domestic Church. Whether it's a good term to use, at least it's been used.
In a search for what I wasn't quite remembering, I found "family altar" as well. (Trying to think of non-"altar" terms, I did remember "icon corner." But I'd use that term mostly in the context of Eastern Christianity or something highly influenced by it. If someone's own home altar-shrine-whatever is pretty much Western in concept and composition, I'd use another term for it.)
