I don't own a mantilla (although I'd like to buy one someday) so all I wear are large silk scarves. Does anyone else wear silk scarves and if so, how do you keep them from slipping off your head? I feel like I'm readjusting my scarf 10 times a day! LOL

I've seen combs or bobby pins attached to Mantillas - maybe one of those would help? I wish I could wear scarves. They end up looking like a babushka and I look like my great grandma.

I wear a silk scarf. Mine is square shaped and I fold it into a triangle and wear it like a mantilla only I tie the ends under my chin, though I suppose you could tie it at the back of your neck if you prefer. It works like a charm. If your scarves are rectangular I imagine a scarf pin would work as well.

These are some lovely stick pins (as we call them in the US) or scarf pins as they are also known:
![]() Listing on Etsy: http://www.etsy.com/listing/99682831...k-pins-3-roses Very easy to pin the veil to the top of your head with these, grabbing your hair underneath, then bring back through to the top of the veil and put the little cap on the end of the pin. ~Liza |

I like the stick pin idea - very pretty.

I have the same problem, I have found that cotton is much less slippery and stretchy fabrics also have a wonderful grip.

I tried a stretchy fabric and while it did stay on longer, it eventually stayed stretched out and kept slipping. I'm definitely going to have to get some pins.

Well, I wouldn't recommend chewing gum--LOL!
But seriously, there is a double-sided fashion tape that you can put on the front of your hair and then just stick the scarf/mantilla/what have you to. It does NOT rip out your hair when you remove it. You can get it at department stores in the foundations department. I've used it when I used to wear mantillas. I didn't like poking holes in the lace. Now I wear hats because I had skin cancer, and need to protect my skin. Another really cool way of tying a square or rectangular scarf is to either make a triangle out of a square scarf, or just use the rectangular one as is, put it on the top of your head, criss-cross the tails behind your hair, and then bring them to the front and tie a knot at your neck. Very Grace Kelly, and it stays put!

Good suggestion.
![]() I folded my silk scarf into a triangle yesterday and then tied a knot under my chin but on the side, so really under my left ear. It looked very stylish and I didn't get any glances for it.

Well since I do mine more like my Muslim friends, I wear a cotton underscarf under my veils--it gives the pins something secure to pin too and a little extra colour and design. Underscarves are super cheap to obtain, sometimes you can get them with a little embroidery on them as well.
