Lightbulb Gay Section

With this election season, there appears to be an overabundance of gay topics lately. Inquiries as to what we think about being gay, why we object to it, gay marriage, gay adoption, etc. It seems like 3 threads a day are created.

Might be good to create an everything gay section, or maybe just a statement that clarifies much of the Church's position on being gay and gay marriage.

There was a time recently when we got to where it didn't seem to matter which party was in office. Things Democrats support now, were things Republicans supprted then. It was a one party system. Then crazy Ross Perot ran for President and got a suprisingly large number of votes. I voted for him. Not because I thought he'd be preseident or be a good one, but just to make a statement that being complacent in politics wasn't such a good idea.

So now, we have the MOST DEVISIVE ISSUE.

The last MDI was abortion. This time GAY - well, everything - is the MDI. The two parties line up on either side of this line of political scrimmage and distract the populace from the fact that neither one of them has done anything or will do anything except make sure they and their buddies make as much money as possible while erasing as much of the Constitution as they can manage.

Gay is good for the economy and neither side really cares about it as a moral issue at all. But having an area all about Gay here seems fine.

Here's a Michael Voris video about it to kick things off:

Shoulda elected Perot. .

I dunno... people here have always been obsessed with homosexuality. Three threads a day sound about normal.

But, yes, the popularity of the topic rises and falls with the attention it gets from US commentators, politicians and news reporting. And with President Obama giving same-sex marriage a thumbs up, it will likely be a campaign issue and heavily covered by television ads, as well as by the usual suspects.

On the other hand, I think most Catholics know where the Church stands on this issue. So I am not sure if there is much of a need for an entire forum devoted to the topic.

Earlier this year, the World News forum was being overrun by US presidential campaign threads. The moderator of the forum solved the matter by allowing only one active thread at a time about any given candidate. This rule greatly helped to cut down the clutter. Perhaps somethings similar could be devised?

I remember when CAF had a separate forum for politics, and it was not a pleasant place to visit. I am concerned that a forum devoted to homosexuality would go down a similar road.

This is a complete crock, with all due respect. Romney has stated time and again that he is against gay so called marriage. Almost the entire elected Republican party is against it.

President Obama, and a goodly majority of elected Democrats are for it.

I don't see how you can say that both parties are the same on the issue. Or on many others, for that matter: now or "then".

The Republicans, with there many faults, actually limited abortions (Mexico City policy).
The President reversed that on his first day in office.

It is absolutely your right to dislike both parties, obviously. Many times I do, too. But saying they are the same, especially on life issues and on gay so called marriage, is not factually correct.

Again, with all due respect.

Purpose of my thread was not so much to start a debate here, from opposing sides.

It's more that I feel like with all the gay stuff in the news lately, more people than usual are interested in talking about it. The same arguments come up. And the same need to defend the Church comes up. I am hoping that if the mods/admin change something about the forum, it would make for less arguing and work for us. Certainly, we could just ignore threads, but it still distracts from all of the many other things we could discuss on this forum.

Maybe it would work better to start a list and take it in turns to start some threads on the many other things we could discuss. Like, if WE start six threads a day on say, charity, maybe it will start to enter the consciousness of the Catholic populace.

. It's okay, it will all go away after the election.

I'm sorry! I didn't mean to make fun of you at all, I was just kind of mocking the people who make the endless repetitive threads and joking around. I'm really sorry if I hurt your feelings at all, it was so not my intention.

Personally, I think it's a great idea to have certain topics smooshed into one spot for convenience. Like, right now I need Scripture references for our stand on abortion and contraception. I bet they've been posted a thousand times, but I need to search or ask or just go Google it. Google often brings up CAF threads.

Were you aware that you can tell Google to search only for CAF threads?

To do so, enter in your search terms. Then, before pressing the Search button, add the following phrase:

site:forums.catholic.com

Then press the Search button.

For example, let's say you want to Bible verses in support of the Catholic position on contraception. You could enter this into the search field:

Bible verses contraception site:forums.catholic.com

Then press the Search button. All the results which Google gives you should be CAF threads, or results which link to CAF threads.
