I am new to the faith and to the forum and need some suggestions

Here is a good book. It is called "This Is The Faith" by Reverend Canon Francis Ripley. It has an Imprimatur and a Nihil Obstat. I read it before converting to Catholicism and I would say it is definitely more substantial than the Catholicism for Dummies type books:

They can be got used on ABEBOOKS.com. Read Introduction to Theology (Sheed) before you tackle Theology and Sanity. I'd read Kreeft first. Sheed is a thorough genius but you ain't reading those books on a lazy Sunday afternoon! You need a pen and notebook. Trust me!

And just a caution. If you are new to the faith, sometimes the forums as much as I love them are not the best place for a new faith.

People come here trying to show Catholics the errors of our ways frequently and sometimes those of us here do not respond as well to their questions as is possible. Don't get me wrong, there are some here that put the professional apologist to shame! But that doesn't mean they can answer every thread.

Just know that there is an answer to all that people come here for, to the lies and sometimes just a different interpretation. But the wonderful richness of scripture and church fathers just cannot be rivaled anywhere!

There are plenty of excellent resources on the web....... free ...... for those of us with limited funds. . The following sites have tons of solid, educational, dependably Catholic, information within them.

Here are the online places I like checking out:

1. Catholic.com --- use the search engine on here, and check out all of the online tracts, too. These are of a more apologetic nature.
2. Newadvent.org --- has a very excellent online Catholic encylopedia; also, the homepage is updated often with links to Catholic news, blog pages, articles, etc. which may be helpful to you.
3. Jimmyakin.com --- Catholic apologist Jimmy Akin is awesome! He explains the faith so well and knows... A LOT. Check out his "Online Articles" section; it is very helpful.
4. Catholicculture.org --- has a wide variety of info. I especially like going there to see the material by Fr. William Most.
5. There are plenty of good Catholic apologetics sites out there, some of which have already been mentioned. I sometimes visist scripturecatholic.com, Dave Armstrong's website, Catholics United for the Faith's website (especially under "Faith Facts")

Every Catholic should read the Catechism; it's meaty, but it contains the faith! Someone mentioned Catholic and Christian--a good read! For some books that aren't free but aren't expensive either, check out the books by Dave Armstrong. He has great deals on his books. You can also get them on PDF. I just bought his book on the early Church Fathers for $1.99!
