I've been to plenty of Masses in Texas like that! But it isn't CAF-approved.

Well, at least they are not all hat and no cattle- you should hear them belt out the Pange Lingua!

I for one was reading it in that light from the beginning - obviously intended to be tongue in cheek - not bitter, as someone said!!

You are someone after my own heart! If there wasn't a BIT of levity here, I would find CAF rather too heavily judgemental and censorious in tone to hang around for long. Indeed, I've been away for years!

The Back Fence is surely intended to be for lighter stuff than, say the Liturgy and Moral Theology forums, and there is plenty of scope there for serious discussions about what is correct and respectful.

I can joke about these things while still observing reverence in what I wear and how I act at Mass. Fortunately, I don't see much to distract me, or else I'm not easily distracted! And decent jeans are fine with me!

I sure hope they haven't stepped in a cow patty b/f coming to Mass.

LOL your post made me laugh, especially since I grew up on a cattle farm
. Where i'm from (Nebraska, just north of Lincoln), it depends. Some of the older people in my parish still wear full suits to mass every sunday, but most people where denim with a nice shirt since I live in a small farming community and that's probably the nicest clothes people have. I think though if you are going to wear denim, you should wear a collared shirt

Oh, yeah, ya gotta watch yourself in certain chortle-challenged sections around CAF or you'll get hit with an "uncharitable" infraction for making a light-hearted joke!

St Philip Neri, pray for the chortle-challenged!

Tone is really hard to convey with words. Like the word gotcha. even if a punctuation is after it the delivery can me different things.
