Best catholic study bible/translation?
I've been reading the NIV for 2 years but it's not Catholic and I would like to have study noted from a Catholic perspective.
Any advice appreciated!

Re: Best catholic study bible/translation?
Douay Rheims Challoner Version is my favorite as far as quality for a good price, around 20 dollars on amazon. Of course there is the Navarre Bible, but you will be spending a lot of money, and it is more like a Bible commentary. If you are interested in Bible commentaries then I can really help you on that!

Re: Best catholic study bible/translation?
I'm really looking for something with study notes from a Catholic perspective. I have found the study notes included with the NIV pretty helpful.

What price range are you looking for? If you like the NIV footnotes then you would like the NAB footnotes, both are done by their translators. Not what I prefer, but if that is what you like then those are quite similar, but the NAB is Catholic. For a more orthodox approach the Douay Rheims Challoner Version is very good! If you are interested in the NAB study Bible addition, I will send you one for free, its on my shelf and I dont use it. My email is jlitteral5@roadrunner.com

I don't care for much of the NAB's translation, but I do like the how the footnotes work.

Re: Best catholic study bible/translation?
I would start with the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible - New Testament, because it is excellent! It uses the RSV-2CE (second Catholic edition). The Old Testament is not ready yet.
Then I would pickup a copy of the New American Bible - revised edition (NABRE) that is a little more portable, and all NABRE's have notes (so you would get notes for the OT).

Seeker,
I am not Catholic but there is no doubt the New Jerusalem Bible one of the best. It was translated by a team which included protestants and Catholics. It shoud be acceptable to anyone. I have one and I use it often.

I second this recommendation. The OT is, as mentioned, won't be ready for a while, but the NT study Bible is extremely useful on it's own for the time being. Also note that ISB volumes are available for the OT books of Genesis and Exodus.
Ignatius Catholic Study Bible - New Testament
Ignatius Catholic Study Bible: Genesis
Ignatius Catholic Study Bible: Exodus

Plus one, but I'm not ready to completely give up my NIV Disciple's Study Bible foot notes.

If you're happy reading things online, you might want to look at these websites:

I find them helpful for Bible study.
