That's one reason why I've been enjoying Kore wa Zombie desu ka among the current shows despite the fanservice that works its way in at times. The handling of the relationships is very decent.
As for Hayate, I have all 19 volumes of the manga currently out in the US. Great series. Working on finishing the 19th. It's actually the only series I've ever followed past the 5th volume (though Toradora should change that soon).

There are actually 32 volumes of Hayate the Combat Butler, the most recent one being released jsut last month. I don'tknow if they've all been released in english though. I finished the first season and I have to say, I really, really love Hayate the Combat Butler. My favortie characters are of ocurse Hayate himself for being such a nice guy and so relatable and Hinagiku because, well, she's Hinagiku, who needs any explanation?! Although I really like Nagi and Ayumu too (stop calling her a hamnster!). Its the only anime that can make me happy just by watching it. It is pure, utter sweet dreams fuel and the way it is made, its obvious the writer had a lot of fun and enjoyed himself. I lvoe the mix of drama, heartwarming moments and over-the-top comedy; hell, episode 48 left me with such a good feeling inside. Also, in all honesty, while I did say the jokes at first only made me smile rather than laugh, the jokes and references later on made me laugh OUT LOUD they were so funny. Especailly the Evangelion ones. Oh my gosh, I must make a video of that someday!
If I had to decide a place to put it on my top favorite anime, it'd definitely be number 9 or 8 (one place above Bleach with the formerand one place above Death Note with the latter. Its more like number 8 though because I really had a pleasant experience) because the anime is so much fun and sweet. Can't wait to read the manga though.

I don't know if I've said this before, but I do my best to avoid scanlations and fansubs on principle, even of shows not available in the US. Therefore, I only have read the 19 vols (actually finishing #19) that are out here in the US.
I'm not judging those who view the matter differently from me. After all, I once saw it that way as well. I certainly understand the arguments from their side, even if I don't agree.
Anyways, Hayate is the reason I got back into anime. Remembered seeing it as a Freshman in college at a chance visit to the anime club. Decided to look it up a couple years later when I remembered it. One thing led to another, heh.
It's may favorite manga, no doubt, and it's in my top 10 anime.
I can't rank my top anime, honestly, but I can give you tiers of what I'd probably say are my favorites:
Top of the Top
--Birdy the Mighty: Decode
--Otome Youkai Zakuro
--Fate/Zero
Awesome
--Outlaw Star
--Tenchi Muyo
--The World God Only Knows
--Hayate the Combat Butler
Great
--Toradora
--Baka to Test
--Spice and Wolf
Very Good/Honorable Mentions:
--Ah! My Goddess s1 & s2 (TV)
--Gintama
--Gosick
--Full Metal Panic & TSR & Fumoffu
--Gundam Wing
--Kannagi
And probably Sailor Moon due to sheer nostalgia. A lot of these rankings are fluid, but these are the general results. Probably Bakemonogatari, though I have some misgivings about the fanservice/references, even if it is a great show.

I don't mind fansubs to be honest. In fact, its the only way I saw alot of anime. Also, the creator of Fate/Zero also created Puella Magi Madoka Magica so yeah. My top ten favorite anime are:
Greatest works of fiction ever made.
Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
Elfen Lied.
Higurashi no naku koro ni.
One of the anime greats.
Death Note.
Haruhi Suzumiya.
Rurouni Kenshin.
Clannad.
Very good anime which are highly recommended.
Hayate the Combat Butler.
Bleach.
Currently on episode 11 of Hayate. After I finish it, I'm definitely jumping on Code Geass. What do you guys think of it?

Re: Who loves anime here?
Episode 13 of Hayate the Combat Butler was SOO heartwarming and sweet. After this, I'm off to post about Hayate on the sweet dreams fuel page of TV Tropes.Man, Iwhs I was just like Hayate and Rurouni Kenshin. They are such nice guys, so reliable and so determined.
Also, in your own favorite anime shows, who are your preffered couples? I prefer Hayate going with Hinagiku because they genuinely care for each other. In fact, msot of the characters in Hayate no Gotoku genuinely care for each other and have genuine chemistry. Their relationships aren't superficial at all if you noticed but rooted in reason and love. Nagi herself calls Kotetsu out for not having a girlfriend because his love was shallow.
Also, I prefer Ichigo and Orihime going together in Bleach because they do love each ther although the former doesn't know Orihime is in love with him and I prefer Shinji and Rei being a couple. Now yes, because SPOILERS Rei is a cloneof Yui, there is some sort of incest subtext. But she isn't exactly a clone of her so much as having some of her DNA olus, she also has some of Liliths DNA so I don't think that its exactly wrong. In my opinion, it only makes Rei RELATED to Yui in a very distinct sort of way so, somehow, Rei and Shinji are cousins. What on earth am I saying, that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Still, I'm a Rei and Shinji shipper.
I also prefer Keeichi going with Mion while having Shion go with Satoshi, Kouta with Lucy and of course, Kenshin with Kaoru and they do in the end get together.

Generally, I stick with the official couples when a show has one, mostly because I don't want to do the whole "unfulfilled romance" thing. Though in Tenchi Muyo, I definitely preferred Ayeka. In TWGOK, of the spirit buddies, I'm conflicted. Used to be solidly in Elsie's corner, but Haqua and Keima's relationship is so much better developed in a romantic sense. Of the capture girls, I'd go with Ayumi x Keima, no question, with Shiori at #2. With Baka to Test, I'd definitely take Aki & Himeji.
With Hayate, I'd say go with Hinagiku, though I'd probably say Nagi if she was a few years older. They have a special relationship as well.

Lolicon! Justkidding but, in reality, if Nagi was a bit olderlike, five years, Hayate and she would have a legal relationship although I prefer their relationship being just like that of a father and his daughter or a brother and his sister who are very close to each other. To be honest, I wish I had a sister like Nagi and pretty much ny girl on the show. Hayate is definitely in my number 7 spot, above Bleach and Death Note and below Clannad and Higurashi.
What I lvoe about the show the most is that all the characters are so likeable yet flawed and everyone has so much chemistry between each other. I can't wait for season 3 and to read the manga. Hell, I literally watched 20 episodes today and I'm jsut one episodes away from finishing season 2. Say chapman, which volume do you think I should read? Since I've finished the anime, I don't wantto skimover all the material I've already seen and want to finish the story. Can you tell me please?

I don't normally care about such things but this brought to mind something I noticed on one of the Bleach forums that I visit. It's so amazing to me how obsessed people get dwelling on some of these imaginary pairings and there are "fan clubs" started for almost every conceivable match-up of characters you can imagine including M-M and F-F. I even saw one where people talked about a Byakuya x Rukia pairing! I know they're not technically blood-related but still...

Also, this is one of my favorite figurines. http://twitpic.com/7ucuk4
I would have bought Hinagiku, but money was deficient when she came out.
Here are some of my other Nendorois: http://twitpic.com/8lvgeq

Re: Who loves anime here?
I'm just about to start the end of the world arc of Hayate the Combat Butler. Man I LOVE this series. Words cannot describe how much I love Hayate no Gotoku and all its characters. I jus wish that the story ends in a very happy way and that Nagi finally understands that Hinagiku and Hayate were made for each other and that it doesn't go the route of Ah! My Goddess by not resolving the plot after more than 20 years, I reallyhope the author doesn't do that. I consider Hayate very well written with all the meta jokes and the genuine, honest to God and Mary love the characters have for each other. I haven't gotten this feeling of happiness in a LOOONG long time from any work of fiction. Because mostl the works I see and read are so depressing (Watchmen, Song of Ice and Fire, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Elfen Lied, Higurashi, American comics, etc...), seeing a work of fiction that is genuinely fun and heartwarming (Clannad, Rurouni Kenshin, Higurashi no naku koro ni Kai, Haruhi Suzumiya, and of course, Hayateno Gotoku) is a huge breath of fresh air.
I seriously cannot praise Hayate no Gotoku enough. My only problems are that a, there isn't a lotof time that has passed between the events. I can't buy the idea that Hayate met Nagi and then went on a date with Hinagiku in the space of four months so I like to pretend that a year or a little less has passed. I also don't like that some of the events in season 1 were retconned out in the second season. Sure, the second season was the ebst and had TONS of sweet moments but my heart turned to jello at the moment Hayate gave Hinagiku that stuffed rabbit! I mean come on, I'm pretending all thsoe events actually happened.
My favorite characters as I said are Hayate and Hinagiku, with Ayumu Nishizawa, Maria and Sakuya coming in second (followed by Wataru, Isumi hand soap and Nagi of course). My least favorite characters are Risa and Miki because they are such huge jerks (Izumi just seems clueless most of the time and I pity here for having a pervert for a dad) and 'father' Radiostar. He gives the Priesthood a bad name and I hate how he is such a pervert. And no, Hayate no Gotoku is NOT and I mean it is NOT anti-catholic or anything. I recognize maliciousness when I see and Hayate never showed any malice towards the Church. Hell, they even got the real Sister whom Sonia personated exactly what a sister should be like. Anyway, I can't stand the ghost priest and its a pity he looks like Yatterman (seriously, thats like my dad's second favorite anime after Candy Candy!).

Dude, Miki's one of my favorite characters, and so is Izumi.
As for AMG! I like the fact that it's gone on for so long. It's published at a different rate from Hayate, and it doesn't have as many volumes as, say, One Piece, Bleach, or Naruto (who have way more volumes in less time).

Re: Who loves anime here?
Also, one last thing about Hayae but the fight scenes in both the anime and manga are excellent. I'm being honest here because in the manga, I new what was going on all the time and wasn't being confused where one punch landed where or what move the hero did. I recall an image of Hayate kicking a bear as being particularly well drawn. As I said, currently am reading the end of the world arc.
