Default What does the Church teach about scattering ashes?

As I understand from EWTN radio answers it is ok for Catholics to be cremated but what is the belief from the Catholic Church on spreading the ashes without proper burial? I was very excited to be going home in July to help my family spread my mom's ashes on the beach (she expressed this before she passed). Now I'm worried about doing something against God's will and now I may be persecuted by family members (who are not Christian or at least don't follow any church teachings) if I now can't do this.

Thank you for the proper teachings of the Church and any guidance,
Mary Ann
