The bible and my children
Looking for some good Bible based children's books that I can read to my five year old daughter to add to our bedtime stories.

Re: The bible and my children
This might be a bit young for your daughter, but our three year old loves the Candle toddler's bible. Everything is in story format.

Re: The bible and my children
What about the New Catholic Picture Bible? It's a step up from a children's Bible, and is a bit much for my boys, but I think a 5 yo would love it.
We also like "Their Hearts Are His Garden" and the Catholic Treasure Box series for bedtime reading, but those aren't specifically Bible stories.

Re: The bible and my children
We just got a new book that I thought might be appropriate for you. It is "The Miracles of Jesus" by Tomie dePaola.

Re: The bible and my children
Good call. Tomie DePaola has many Catholic themed books - St. Francis, St. Benedict and St. Scholastica, a beautiful one is "Mary the Mother of Jesus" also his "Book of Bible Stories" the parables and another called "The Clown of God". I would recommend them all. His illustrations are beautiful and very approachable for children (and adults).
Usborne Bible Tales are nice, we have "Noah's Ark" and "Jonah and the Whale". Also "Two-Minute Bible Stories" by Elena Pasquali published by Lion ISN 978-0-8254-7854-3. A beautiful book of Catholic ABCs is "A is for Altar, B is for Bible" by Judith Lang Main, Catechesis of Good Shepherd Publications.
One of my children's favorite series of biographies of the saints are those by the Daughters of St. Paul. I have "St. Anthony of Padua - Proclaimer of the Good News" in front of me, ISN 0-8198-7016-1. We also have St. Therese, Saint Colette, Saint Francis, Saint John Bosco and St. Vincent de Paul all in this series. They all have beautiful full color illustrations on every page and are great readalouds or as independent readers for older children.
Happy reading!

Re: The bible and my children
Kindness, thanks for adding the great suggestions to the thread. I'm going to look into some of those for my kids. We love Tomie dePaola in our house.
