Punishment & Temptation.
Does God punish us?
Does God allow us to be punished (by Satan)?
Does God tempt us?
Does God allow us to be tempted (by Satan)?

Satan has no power but what God allows him to have.

Re: Punishment & Temptation.
Just out of curiosity, for those who believe in the Bible, what are your thoughts about how God tempted and punished in the OT?

Re: Punishment & Temptation.
God never did actually "tempt" people, if by that
you mean that He said,
"Here folks, this is a bad thing to do. Why don't ya do it anyway?
..I'm gonna kick your butts for doing it, but why don't ya try it anyhow??"
He never induces anyone to commit sin himself.
What he does is he reads your heart and knows that your intentions,
inwardly, are evil (if that is true of you) and bent on opposing his will.
Knowing you to be arrogant, disobedient, and willful, he takes non-sinful
things, and puts them in front of you, to demonstrate that you will abuse them
and do wickedly. He "tempts" in that way.
For example, Pharaoah was perfectly capable of obeying
God and letting Israel go free. He flatly refused.
God told him again and again, LET MY PEOPLE GO, RIGHT NOW!!
He continued to flatly refuse.
God sent plagues on the land.
STILL he refused (more wickedness and rebellion).
When God opened the Sea for the Israelites,
this unbelievably arrogant, blasphemous idiot
actually led his troops down into the middle of the parted Sea,
actually believing that he could successfully FIGHT God.
Of course, God's closing the sea over him and his entire army,
drowning them all,
put a bit of a damper on his plans...
But don't be surprised at Pharoah.
There are Christian religious leaders, today, who believe they can successfully
defy God. They teach that premarital sex, abortion, sodomy, etc are all okay.
And they ACTUALLY believe that they are going to get away with
this blasphemy, apostasy, and Sin against the Holy Spirit.
They are not, and their punishment IS going to begin,
at His Hands, in THIS life,
if they do not repent.
Same goes for the politicians who are passing all the immoral laws,
especially the Catholic ones among them, for they are the MOST culpable by FAR.
