Default What's that quote by Sheen or Chesterton?

It goes something like if you take what you like and reject what you don't like then it's not faith that you believe in but yourself.

I think it's either Archbishop Fulton Sheen or G K Chesterton who said it.

I'm trying to Google it but since my words are so choppy it's not working.

Thanks!

Dang! Nevermind! It's Saint Austine of Hippo. Boy was I off. LOL

If you believe what you like in the Gospel, and reject what you don't like, it is not the Gospel you believe, but yourself.”

Chesterton has too many zingers to number. One of my favorites goes something like, "orthodoxy has not been tried and found wanting, it has been found difficult and therefore not tried."

'"The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult; and left untried."- G. K. Chesterton

is that the one your on about? Chesterton is brilliant one of my favourite is: “The difficulty of explaining ‘why I am a Catholic’ is that there are ten thousand reasons all amounting to one reason: that Catholicism is true.” – G. K. Chesterton
