Are you trying to upload a thumbnail or trying to hotlink a web-based image?
I don't see any BB Code so I am not sure which method you are using.

Are you trying to use your profile picture as your avatar?
I think you would have to upload two copies of the same image for that (possibly one reduced as avatars have smaller size constraints).
