Grief due to a deceased pet
Please pray for my aunt. She had adopted a little stray cat in her neighborhood and loved this little cat very much. The cat had a special affinity for her that it had for no one else. The cat was an "outdoor cat" because my aunt's dogs would never do well with a cat in the house. This little cat was across the street today and when she saw my aunt she ran towards her. A car came down the street as the cat was crossing and the cat was hit. The woman driving the car was a coward. She saw my aunt and immediately drove off. She didn't even bother to get out of the car to say she was sorry.
The cat died in my aunt's arms. My aunt is completely devastated. Her precious little cat died very brutally right in front of her.
St. Francis please pray for us.
Amen

Re: Grief due to a deceased pet
I can understand her sadness.
Lord You know that we sometimes find consolation in our animals, with their loyalty and affection and the warm responses that they elicit in us.
Please help this poor lady to find consolation in the shock she experienced in the hurt and dying moments of her little cat and in the other woman's failure to acknowledge the accident.
Help her to find some comfort in the love and care that she gave a cat which otherwise had been homeless.

Abba,
Bless this lady with Your consolation. You created all creatures, including those that give us a taste of Your unconditional love.
We thank You for their presence in our lives.

I am praying for your aunt.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is
the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Re: Grief due to a deceased pet
Your aunt should recon with the fact that she is really only sorry for herself. To the cat it makes no difference whether it dies hit by a car or old age a few years later. Developing affective ties to an animal seems quite questionable to me, even though some people even feel affection for their surf board or car; but devastation over losing such thing clearly betrays disordered affections.
St Francis preached to the animals and experienced harmony with all creation, he didn't develop sick relationships with them.
Your aunt (as all of us) needs to love God and neighbor and she won't bother any more about the cat.

Re: Grief due to a deceased pet
Heavenly Father, In your kindness, you have sent animals to be our companions and helpers. Please help those of us who have aching hearts over the loss of these companions. Amen.
Nagyszakall: your comment was unwarranted, unwanted and unhelpful. I pray for your humanity. You sound like you have never known the love of an animal, and don't know what it is like to lose one.

Lord, please heal your daughter's sorrowful heart and help her to grow closer to you through her painful loss. May you be the joy and the center of her life, not anyone or anything else. Amen.

I'm so sorry to hear of her loss! May the Lord grant her peace in her heart over this sad situation. Even though it was only a little cat, it showed affection in its own little way, and she was able to appreciate it.

Re: Grief due to a deceased pet
Praying that your aunt is comforted by the fact that she gave the little cat a good home instead of it having to live a horrible life as a stray. I understand her grief over the loss of a loved pet. Animals enrich our lives and are Gods creatures. May God bless your aunt for taking in a stray cat and loving it.
