Default Uknown (2011) with Liam Neeson

A few possible spoilers ahead:

I don't know if anyone here has seen the film UNKNOWN (2011) with Liam Neeson? In it a proud ex-STASI (East European Communist security police) member (played by Sebastian Koch who also played Adolf Hitler in DER UNTERGANG) is one of the good guys and he laments Soviet era filter-less cigarettes which were said to have "killed more people than Stalin". I found the equivocation and trivialization of genocide to be quite disgusting but then Hollywood was always left leaning and tended to downplay or outright ignore the 100 million or so casualties of their preferred worldview in the East.

The film had an only science can save mankind / progressive message as the good guys - a tolerant and pro-Western Saudi Prince (surrounded by his harem of super models) and a German professor were "progressives" and gave mankind a new type of corn which grows in drought. The scientist even labelled this a present from "science" in a press conference at the end of the film. The bad guys weren't Islamic fundamentalists but capitalists bent on restricting the sale of this new corn patent to preserve their food supply monopoly, as though the the greedy West was making a fortune on food supply off poor countries.
