What's your favorite food for Lent?
It's been several years since I last had an old favorite, tortas de camaron. It's a Mexican dish traditionally eaten during Lent. It consists of shrimp & egg patties with lopal cactus slices and red chili sauce. Any favorite foods for Lent others have out there?

I believe OP simply means what are favorite vegitarian/fish dishes people do on Friday of Lent when they can't have meat.
Salmon Pie for me.

We emphasize abstinence from meat on the Fridays in Lent. Since you are in the UK, where every Friday is mandetory abstinence from meat, it's not such a big deal there.
In the US, the only obligatory days to abstain from meat are the Fridays in Lent and Ash Wednesday. That's why many families have seasonal traditions of favorite meatless dishes.

Re: What's your favorite food for Lent?
I abstain on every Friday in the U.S., and there is a variety of meals I can make at home that are meat-free, but my favorite foods are restaurant meals. I have a favorite Greek delivery place nearby that makes a halloumi cheese pita sandwich. I get this with "Greek fries" (French fries with feta, oregano and lemon sauce) and chipotle hummus with warm pita bread. I enjoy this no matter how many times I order it. And then there is a taco shop I like that has tempura fish burritos. I usually add a side of refried beans. Cheap and tasty and all meat-free.
One Lent I decided to give up delivery food for the whole time except on Sundays. I am essentially quite lazy and I don't like grocery shopping, cooking, or cleaning up, so I spend the majority of my meager budget on restaurant dining and expensive delivery meals. I was dangerously low on money last month, and had an involuntary break from delivery, and I saved a lot of money, so it is slowly getting through to me the value of making my own meals, but I may never completely learn.

Oh...right. I get ya now. Yeah I don't eat meat any Fridays. Although I have to remind myself every week. I tend to have Salmon with a variety of things.

I have two favorites: boiled potato and cheese pirogi topped with chopped onions browned in butter, and buttered wide egg noodles with farmers cheese and green onions!

Re: What's your favorite food for Lent?
I eat simply and sufficiently. The Church teaches that Lent is a time of penance and prayer - not just about not eating meat. It is about living simply and devoting time to God instead of worldly pleasures. That is why I believe favourite foods have no place during Lent.
