Default Why did this happen?

Okay so I posted a new thread yesterday about Romney. Now I came back today to find out that the thread I posted has now become not my thread anymore. It was added to some other thread. The new thread it was added to was by someone I don't even know I don't know if this person is a moderator or just some person. I want to know why my thread has now become not my thread. Also Robert, a moderator, had edited my post that started the thread to a smaller size which I'm okay with. ALTHOUGH... he DID NOT tell me that he edited my post OR that he had made the post not mine or that he added it to another post. He DID NOT contact me in any way, shape, or form to inform me about the changes to my thread.

Someone please explain to me why no one contacted me about this and why my thread has become not my post anymore and that it's just a response to someone elses thread. Thank You.

Combining threads is done by mods on every type of forum. This is done to streamline the forum experience.

I realize that you think that your post was different, and I am not saying that it wasn't, but in the end unless there is a truly significant subject difference, it is better to post in existing threads.

In a forum this size, it is simply impossible for a mod to explain his/her every decision. It would require the mods to spend every waking hour sending explanatory PM's. Mods do their job because they are passionate about the forum that they work for. It's a labor of love, if you will. I speak from personal experience (I mod at a Ferrari forum). Would love to do it here, TBH.

Anyway, these decisions are in no way personal (unless you post spam, flames, etc, of course). So don't take it personally.

With all due respect, honestly.

I wish they would streamline the thousands of USA election threads into one area so we aren't all consummed by it all the time.

Discussions of politics (discussing particular candidates, asking who to vote for, etc.) among CAF members is acceptable only in the World News sub-forum. If you see a thread in another forum please report it and it will be closed or moved.

Okay, but shouldn't I be informed that this change happened?

I agree, i responded to a thread and was PM and told that was being discussed on another so I should take my post elsewhere. Sorry I was responding to page 6-9 on a 29 page thread, I tend to read from the beginning so I understand where the thread started, instead of walking in on the conversation at the end to make a statement which in the culture I grew up is rude. I cant help if the response to page 6 when I click quote doesnt show up right under the quote I was responding to, instead it becomes page 30. So I guess now I will only go to the last page and if what I was searching under by page 30 is no longer in line with the title of page 1 I will simply go to another thread.

It is impossible in a forum of this size to PM every mod decision. Again, these guys are working for free.

Just sayin...

Threads are moved and merged frequently. Often there is a redirect that stays in the original forum for a few hours.

Threads are moved, merged or deleted frequently without notifying the original poster, nor anyone else who posted on the thread. However, you can find your own posts easily by going to your profile and looking at your Statistics tab.

Thomas C. PMs me every time I do something wrong or he does something to my threads.

Seriously?? How do you know this? If this is the case, and there is no staffing cost, why does CAF need THOUSANDS of dollars all the time to keep it running?

I don't know it, but I have never been a part of a forum where the mods get paid.
I will let the staff answer about the need for money, but I am guessing it's for evangelization costs (travel, the costs of hosting a forum of this size, etc).

Thank you for your concern. As a non-profit, we do our best with what we have and with what we are given by the grace of God:
  • We host, manage, and staff the forums.
  • Our staff apologists labor to provide clear, charitable, truthful, accurate answers.
  • Our technical staff labor to accommodate for the growing needs of the forum community.
  • Our overworked moderators are paid an extremely modest stipend. (Other discussion forums may not do this, but we have found it to be a beneficial practice to CAF and a matter of justice to the mods for the long hours the mods put in to keep CAF up and running.)
  • Yet there is still more work to be done.
We provide a safe, friendly environment to:
  • Provide expert answers to members’ questions.
  • Foster healthy discussions and debates.
  • Help current Catholics grow in the faith.
  • Help those struggling in their faith.
  • Reach out to non-Catholics.
  • Share good Catholic resources with each other.
  • Pray and support each other as we carry our daily crosses.
  • Build a culture of life.
Yes, the forums are in danger of perishing if we are not able to raise funds we need during the occasional fundraising drives; we can’t continue our work without that financial support. We do what we can and where we can’t, we trust in God that he will continue to provide. Please keep us in your prayers and thank you for your support.

Thank you, Therese! I know this was off topic, but I appreciate your response. Indeed, non-profits, and Catholic apostolates in general, typically rely on the grace of God to continue.

God bless!
