Default How do you get sticky label residue off the bottom of a plastic cup

I have this plastic water bottle and the bar code was on a sticker on it on the bottom. I took it off, and the sticky glue residue is still there––even after wiping it with alcohol, soaking it in water overnight, and running it through the dishwater. Is there some secret home remedy to get rid of it?

(Besides accosting the genius engineers who thought it clever to put a super glue sticker on dishwater ware.)

Peanut butter, Crisco, Goo Gone
Anything a little oily, then wash it good, especially if you use Goo Gone which has a strong chemical odor

And in the future, soak the sticker and cover with liquid dish soap. Wait about 5 minutes, it will slide right off.

If you know an artist (a painter), ask them if they have a solvent called Grumtine, made by Grumbacher. It is an organcic solvent derived from citrus peels (it smells like lemons). A rag dampened with this will absolutely "kill" and residual stickiness from adhesives. In fact, the easiest way to remove a gummed label from anything is to put 1 or 2 drops of Grumtine on the label and within a minute the label will peel cleanly off the object leaving no stickiness behind.

From reading this thread, it is clear that the manufacturers of plastic dining ware are in league with the manufacturer of Goo Gone.....

Agree with the goo gone but lighter fluid is good too.

OK, so now that we've collectively solved that one, how about name label sticky that stays on a white shirt? I don't want to use anything with an oily base which leaves out all the above suggestions.
Any Laundry Gurus out there?

They say you can use an ice cube to freeze it and then just scrape it off carefully. Never tried it, though, and I guess it depends on how delicate that shirt is.
But I've also never had that problem, that's some crazy label if it leaves sticky traces that cannot be washed off.

On other surfaces, or less sensitive fabrics (like denim), I used to remove all sorts of sticky stuff with plain old school erasers, then just washed the traces off.
Disclaimer: I hope your US erasers aren't very different from our Eastern European stuff.

I had to Google that, in the U.S. it's called rubbing alcohol and I have plenty so I'll try it. Thanks!
