Re: Anyone interested in Prometheus?
I saw Prometheus recenltly and was not too impressed with it.
I found it exceptionally bland and, dare I say, rather pointless.
It had neither the chilling suspense of Alien, nor the fast paced action of Aliens.
Most of the characters were pointless fluff who had no great significance. I was especially disappointed by the Charlize Theron / Idris Elba characters, as those are actors I like.
I didnt think the story/point was especially clear either (I assume one existed?).
The only bit which was moderately clear was the faith of one character vs revelations about human origins (in the film universe, not reality). I did not think that was a very worthwhile, rewarding or interesting angle, given it was not developed or explored. I very much think the religious angle was tossed in deliberately to attract people, (given the popularity of religious vs secular debate these days).
Equally, I don't really see any connection between the films content and the name "Prometheus", other than the producers trying to court / suggest religious controversy.
I found much of the film unconvincing, in terms of how characters acted at certain times (even allowing for the fact it was a sci-fi film).
I found much of the film bizarre, scenes often left me wondering "what is going on here?".
Some of the cinematography was good.
I enjoyed the special effects.
Verdict: disappointing / vague / boring. With such a cast and the Alien universe, they could have done so much better. I felt like a kid with a massive wrapped present, and when I have torn off the wrapping paper and opened the box.....theres nothing actually in it.
I would not bother to watch it again.
Its nowhere near as bad as the cringeworthy Alien v Predator movies, but every bit as disappointing / unsatisfying.

Re: Anyone interested in Prometheus?
Thank you. Although I've generally enjoyed science-fiction in films before 1979, I think I'll pass on this one. Even the strange 2001 was good.
It's a crying shame that the otherwise brilliant Terminator 2 was filled with so much profanity. But Hollywood is the place that teaches us "there's no such thing as bad language." They are 100% wrong about that.
Peace,
Ed

Re: Anyone interested in Prometheus?
i hadn't been to a movie in 6 months and i had just gotten paid that thursday so i stayed up and went to the midnight showing.
i liked the first 2 Alien movies and so i was looking forward to this one. i wouldn't give it an A, but the special effects were great. i did not care for the actress who played Shaw,
the actor playing David was really good i thought. i felt the character of the old man could have been left out and some things were a little unbelievable. how someone could run around like that after abdominal surgery???!!!!! i don't think so.
i would give the movie a B and as late as it was, i didn't fall asleep. i was able to stay awake through the entire movie until it let out after 2:30 am.
so i was not 100% satisfied, but i was entertained. just wish the popcorn would have tasted fresher.

I'm a fan of the some of the Alien films...Alien, Aliens, Aliens VS Predator, not this film it was quite disappointing. Very bland. The special effects were ok but there was nothing new that I haven't seen in a million other scifi movies. I did like that they kept the look of the original interiors of the ship in the begining but that wasn't enough to keep me interested. The Engineer Aliens were jerks, the Robot was pointless and totally without any real purpose the original Robot at least has some personally though it was evil, I found myself longing for the ending in the middle of the movie. I still have high hopes for Spiderman and still think The Hunger Games is the best movie of the year so far.

Re: Anyone interested in Prometheus?
If you're looking for a good scifi Aliens type of movie try Pitch Black I think it's one of the best since the original Alien. You can pass on the Riddick Sequels though those were terrible. Also though not scifi Pathfinder is a good adventure movie too....Vikings come to America ....love that one.
