Default HGTV's show "Househunters" is phoney

There was an article in my local newspaper today describing how this show is fixed. The couple who is supposedly shopping for a new house has, in reality, already bought a house. And the other two houses they see may not even be for sale. Reality TV isn't real.

I don't think that will come as a surprise to anyone

Yeah, I suspect 90% of "reality" TV is fixed. I like the show anyway, just because I love looking at houses and I like to see what you can get for your money in certain parts of the world.

You know what always drives me crazy about that show, though? People always comment on the most stupid things - they'll walk through a house they like, claim that it's the perfect size, perfect layout, charming, in a good neighborhood, etc....then they'll discuss it after and go "Ooooohhh.....but I don't know about that paint color in the 3rd bedroom, that really clashes with out furniture." Seriously? You're really doubting purchasing a house because of something you can change in one day for under $30???????

That's why I can believe it's rigged. The producers probably tell the people to point out imagined negatives on the homes to build up the "suspense" and make it sound as though all three homes have equal pros and cons and making the final decision is going to be "really hard".

I've also heard that this show in particular is staged. I always wondered how two twenty-something grad students could have like a 5 mil. budget for an apartment in Paris. My mom likes this show though, and ir can be neat to just see the places, especially in the international version.

Well, the next thing you know, they're going to tell me that professional wrestling is staged.

I like watching it, even if it is "staged". From what they are reporting in the media, the people on the show have already bought one of the houses that are shown and they find two other houses just for comparison. I don't have a big enough problem with that to make me stop watching the show, especially the international edition. I like to see what houses in other locations are like inside. I also like to see what the couple picked because it may not have been my choice, 9 times out of 10 its not. I also like to see the before and after shots at the end. So its a bit fake, eh, so what.
