What's "responsible sex"?

And does "consenting adults" mean that adultery is ok? Clearly the 2 parties getting together are consenting. Is that all that matters is that they're both consenting?

I don't think premarital sex is particularly wrong/immoral, but I also understand that Christianity is quite clear on the issue--and I want to be a Christian. That said, however, I don't want to say something is wrong just because my religion teaches it. Can any of you recommend bible readings or devotional practices that can help me discern this issue? Thanks in advance.
There's no denying this fact: sex is the source of life.

When I think about that fact it makes me realize that for a moral person, a Believer who professes that each and every human person is created in the image and likeness of God, it's untenable to believe that casual sex, knowing that it's the source of life, could be moral.
