dream with a demon
hello everyone! sorry if I posted this in the wrong area.
I have been away from Church for a while now and have been trying to get back into it, I was starting to a couple weeks ago and then for some reason I stopped. Well I'm at again but this time I feel as if I'm being called there so I'm really trying to hard to get back into it. The other night I had this pretty freaky dream, and in it I was trying to get back into Church(just like real life) and in the dream I had told my mom and sister that I was going to Church and they told me i had a demon on my shoulders and he two claws pointed into my throat and after that I got a fairly vivid picture of it and woke up immediately afterwards. I told my sister about it and asked if satan is saying he's going to do everything he can to keep from going back to Church? she told me that you're not supposed to interpret dreams so I've tried to ignore it somewhat but it was a bit scary. And now at night I have this odd feeling I'm not sure if I should call it fear or not, I don't think so but it could be although I have nothing to fear. During the day I'm completely fine when I'm alone. Anyone else experience something like this?

Re: dream with a demon
Sounds like a sign that the evil one wants to prevent you from going back to church.
I have never had a dream like the one you are describing, but I did have a dream about demonic fish once....totally freaked me out.

Re: dream with a demon
I have had similar dreams before, with the seemingly very real presence of evil. I would not take a whole lot of time interpreting dreams. In the fright of the moment, an opportunity for prayer and trust presents itself. That's what I would do, take your fear of the unknown to God in prayer. If God wants you to have an interpretation, then maybe he will give it to you in prayer.

I think these are attacks of the devil to keep you from going back to church. I would pray the Prayer of St. Michael often and get aquainted with fasting. Also, make use of the sacramentals like Holy Water and Sacred Images. This will help. I wouldn't dwell on it too much. Focus on the Lord.

Re: dream with a demon
Love the responses you'll get here. Really, 1 post? If your not a troll, forgive me for thinking that, I'd say, "it was a dream. Nothing more, nothing less". Kind of like when I dream I see bigfoot outside my bedroom window, and believe he might have actually been there when I wake up.
Of course, there are those here that are going to tell you to see a priest, have the house blessed, burn something in your front yard etc.etc. etc., LOL.

The thread caption sounds like the title (not to mention the plot) of a "B" movie to me.
Sorry, I just couldn't resist.

Re: dream with a demon
Ah, dreams. They're such a delicate theme. Most people will tell you that dreams are just dreams... actually, the Bible tells you that you should not be deceived by dreams... HOWEVER that does not means that there aren't dreams that actually can be interpreted or that God (or the devil, even) can communicate with you through a dream. In the Old Testament we see people having dreams and prophets giving them an interpretation. Joseph, the son of Jacob, could do that and claims that the gift of interpreting dreams is given by God. God also communicated his Will to Saint Joseph, adoptive father of Jesus Christ, through dreams.
It has been a time since I had a dream like this, but I know how they feel. It's a dreadful presence that gives you goosebumps and can paralyze you in fear and you even struggle a bit to say a prayer. However, being brave and praying nonstop is the best you can do when you meet a demon in a dream. What you probably feel is the demon's presence, but fear not, I recommend intensive praying (the Holy Rosary is good), and call Mary to make you company and sleep with you. The demon can't do anything that God doesn't want to.
I think that the interpretation of the dream you had is right spot on, you already told it to your sister, but if you keep having these kind of dreams, don't waste time trying to interpret them, just as the other folks here told you, pray, focus on the Lord, call for Mary's company and protection. Also, be sure to go to Mass, I'd recommend daily, and receive the Communion. The devil will hate you even more, but you will become a lot more stronger and confident in God so it can only make you good.

Re: dream with a demon
First of all, I'm afraid the phrase "you're not supposed to interpret dreams" is very wrong. Saints, Christians of all backgrounds, and highly distinguished Biblical figures through the ages have often had dreams which have clearly been prophetic or "out of this world".
Imagine if Joseph had ignored his dreams - then the Holy Family would have been in BIG trouble!
So I'd say your dream is indeed "more than a dream". You say you experience "fear" at night... then you must pray for courage! Ask your Guardian Angel, Michael the Archangel, your patron saints, and Mary Our Blessed Mother to intercede for you and to guard you, strengthen you, and encourage you.
Don't let others decide what you feel - if you feel a real presence in your dreams then who am I or others to doubt it? Besides, prayers of protection are ALWAYS necessary to help avoid sin.
Hope this helps!

Re: dream with a demon
Job 4:13-14 by night when dreams confuse the mind and slumber lies heavy on everyone, a shiver of horror ran through me and filled all my bones with fright.
Job 7:14 you then frighten me with dreams and terrify me with visions,
Wisdom 18:17 Immediately, dreams and gruesome visions overwhelmed them with terror, unexpected fears assailed them.
Ecclesiasticus 34:1-7 Vain and deceptive hopes are for the foolish, and dreams lend wings to fools. As well clutch at shadows and chase the wind as put any faith in dreams. Dreams are no different from mirrors; confronting a face, the reflection of that face. What can be cleansed by uncleanness, what can be verified by falsehood? Divinations, auguries and dreams are nonsense, like the fantasies of a pregnant woman. Unless sent as emissaries from the Most High, do not give them a thought; for dreams have led many astray, and those who relied on them have come to grief.
