Good Question PT. Well you have to remember this is a totally Tongue in cheek book ..." Henry wanted the pope to give him a divorce from his wife.........The Pope, however, refused , and seceded with all his followers from the Church of England. This was called the Restoration. "

Yes, Maryann, definately tongue-in-cheek, this! Thanks for digging it out and posting. Does the book say anything about Nelson and Trafalgar?

Chap 47 ( page 97)" Napoleon ought never to be confused with Nelson, in spite of their hats being so alike; they can most easily be distinguished from one another by the fact that Nelson always stood with his arm like this, while napoleon always stood with his arm like that" ....." At one battle when he was told that his Admiral-in-Chief had ordered him to cease fire , he put the telephone under his blind arm and exclaimed in disgust: ' Kiss me ,hardy!' By this and other intrepid manoeuvers the French were utterly driven from the seas."

This one is not as funny really since i think there are some 'insider' jokes.
"Waterloo: After loosing this war (something in Portugal) Napoleon was sent away by the French, since he had not succeeded in making them top nation: but he soon escaped .... in time to fight ...at the battle of Waterloo. This utterly memorable battle was fought at the end of a dance, on the playing fields of Eton ( top private school in England), and resulted in the English definitely becoming top nation. it was thus a very good thing.......This time Napoleon was sent right away ......by everyone, and stood on the deck of a ship in white breeches with his arm like that." Not sure what the Eaton reference and dance is about but I think the Nelson pose comes from a painting of him. |

Hi, Maryann!
Does this humorous little book say anything about the English Civil War and how Charles I....umm...really lost his head?
