Default Look What I Found in My Family's Genealogical File

I remember my Dad showing me this a while back, but I just recently decided to dig it up on my own from the deep, dark recesses of where my family keeps old historical documents and genealogical records. It's a First Communion certificate of one of my ancestors. It's from the coast of Mississippi (or thereabouts), but I can't say much else.

It should say the following, if my abilities to read the handwriting and translate the French are good:

"Anthony Baptiste took his first Communion
in the Church of [???] on the 11th
of the month of April
of the year 1852........[???, presumably a signature]"

Very cool.

You might want to get this archivally framed, that is under glass that keeps out UV and on a non-acid paper backing. You can also get it into a "scrapbook" that has this kind of paper, which is what I did with my family documents. It's in good shape for being over 150 yrs old.

Awesome..

I agree with Julia Mae. It would be wonderful to get this properly and professionally protected and framed...What a treasure...
I wonder if someone at a college might be able to help with the parts you can't decipher.

Peace
James

It may have been a church attached to a convent?

Looks like they took baptism seriously. I like that.

I knew that faire meant to do/make. I was just adapting it to English colloquialism, since it sounded a little awkward to me.

It's possible that the church may have been attached to a convent, especially if this was in New Orleans (which is near Mississippi, of course).
