Iran quake death toll hits 180, with hundreds injured, six villages leveled
Northwestern Iran was struck Saturday by a series of major earthquakes and strong aftershocks, as state TV reported at least 180 dead, 1350 injured and at least six villages leveled.

The two quakes unleashed about 900 times the energy as the two recent earthquakes near Yorba Linda, in southern California.
Big earthquakes in Iran often bring very high death tolls due to the mountainous terrain, poor construction and difficulty in getting disaster relief to where it is needed.

Iran state TV reports that toll from Saturday's earthquakes rises to at least 250 dead, over 2,000 injured.
