Father Laird's writing is beautiful. This book is the companion to his book, Into the Silent Land. The books focus on contemplative prayer. But not really. He helps us understand silence. The deceptively simple concept of silence. As we pray. When I asked a retired priest, "How do I pray?". He told me to go into the empty church and be silent. No words, no particular prayer. In fact, no prayer. Just listen.
I went back and told him that that was not EASY. But I needed to learn quiet my mind. And I became interested in silence as a form of prayer. I did not know what I was talking about. But I started researching and reading. And I found several books. This is by far one of my favorites.
Father Laird has a way of helping you clear the clutter, or the chatter, in your mind so that you can find a clearer path of communication with the Lord.
I also recently saw Father Laird speak. He is wonderful. Interested in anyone who has read.
