In 1966, he was elected Chairman of the Committee for the Propagation of the Faith. Pope Paul VI appointed him Bishop of Rochester, N.Y., in Oct. 1966, and as Archbishop of the Titular See of Newport, Wales, in Oct. 1969.
Before he left the Peoria Diocese, he served as a parish priest in the parish my Dad's familly lived in.

I'm trying to hunt down their baptismal certificates to see if there is any chance he may have baptized one or more of them.

That would be soooo cool.

God bless you for sharing this.

I know I said this numerous of times but if it wasn't for you lovely CAF members I would have never known The Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen. I have been blessed to receive a third class relic Prayer card that has been touched to his Mass Vestments and I receive newsletters about The Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen. as well.

Thank you for the link. I remember watching his weekly program with my mother, but I was not old enough to appreciate the magnificence in his words and delivery.

Here is another link for those who are interested in a 20 minuet interview with Bishop Jenky, bishop of Peoria, with Vatican Radio on the Cause and Bishop Sheen

mary bobo I was one years old when Venerable, Archbishop Fulton J Sheen passed on to Eternal Life but I am very thankful that I have come to known him and love him.

A YouTube video of Venerable, Archbishop Fulton J Sheen when he was a guest on "What's my line?"

Excellent news.

I remember a time when I, though born Catholic, went through a long period of questioning some of the fundamental Marian teachings of the Church.

Those doubts were pretty much dissolved by reading "The World's First Love".

I don't know if that counts as a "miracle" as far as his cause is concerned, but it certainly was one for me!

The once Crystal Cathedral now Christ Cathedral had a statue of him because Robert Schuller admired him so much. I guess they can keep it and still display it now that he is Ven. Fulton J. Sheen.
