Default Who Am I?

Who am I? I have no respect for justice. I maim without killing. I break hearts and ruin lives. I am cruel and malicious and gather strength with age. The more I am quoted, the more I am believed. I flourish at every level of society. My victims are helpless. They cannot protect themselves against me because I have no name and no face. To track me down is impossible. The harder you try, the more elusive I become. I'm nobody's friend. Once I tarnish a reputation, it is never the same. I topple governments and ruin marriages. I destroy careers and cause heartache and sleepless nights. I wreck churches and separate Christians. I spawn suspicion and generate grief, make innocent people cry on their pillows. Even my name hisses. I am gossip.

Default Re: Who Am I?

You sure you wanna know? Whatever life holds in store for me, I will never forget these words: "With great power comes great responsibility." This is my gift, my curse. Who am I? I'm Spider-man.

I'm so sorry, I couldn't resist.

Gossip is a tough one to over come. It really, really is. Take away talking about other people, and it feels like there's nothing else to discuss. I've got this code, where I have a very few specific people I'll tell absolutely anything too, whether it's about someone else or myself. This involves my immediate family and my two best friends. Because I trust them not to spread it around, because they too keep my words within our group. I've talked to my priest about this, and he says it's alright as long as I'm not speaking anything terrible about another person... Sometimes I fail at this.

I think the only thing we can do is watch ourselves and what we say, because we can't really change anyone else. =/ Just do our best not the feed the gossip and stay out of it when others are gossiping. Ask them how they'd feel in that persons shoes.
