St Thomas Aquinas philosophical opinion (and it seems to be the theological position of the Church) is that the 'Self' or the 'I' of the human being is not the mind, soul, body or any other attribute separately, but it is the union of the Body and Soul. This simple premise helps us to realise why the Church teaches we will be bodily resurrected on the Last Day, that you are not you without the Body and Soul in union.
