I very much enjoyed the radio program on Mothers of the Church. This is the appropriate feminism! I am eager to read the book. It seems to me that the Catholic Church on the whole has always been pro-women. Saints Perpetua and Felicity, pray for us!

I heard it driving someplace at 4:45pm. The author Mike Aquillina was a treasure trove of information. I desperately wanted to call in and ask him my question, but I was driving and had to be somewhere that instant. I took down his info and will try to find an email where I can direct my question. He knew alot about early female saints and the Church environment in these eras. He's just the person I want to learn more regarding Christina the Astonishing, and why she was never made "Servant of God" at least.

Christina the Astonishing is a saint - feast day 24 July. True she was not formally canonized by a Pope as modern saints are, but then neither was St Peter.

For that matter neither was St Hildegard of Bingen - and yet she is to be declared a Doctor of the Church later this year!

You have no idea how much it warms my heart to hear you say that. It's truly music to my ears. But, Catholic Online (www.catholic.org) recently removed her from the Saints Database, -despite my pleading, lengthy emails. Wikipedia added "Veneration of Christina has never been formally approved by the Catholic Church, but there still remains a strong devotion to her in her native region of Limburg." ...So I don't know what to think. She's listed in "The Lives of the Saints: Concise Edition", but not in the others. I wish the Church would give her the credit she deserves. And, what's more confusing is that they put the other Saint Christina (of Italy 700 AD?) right on her feast day, July 24th. Some sources even claim the other Christina climbed into ovens as well, they get it all confused...

But trust me, if you say she's a Saint, I'm gonna agree with you 100%

Great program which is relevant to my partially Sicilian and partially Catholic family. I told my mother about how giving Mary Magadelene credit as a witness to the Resurrection was a bold move by the Evangelists who were speaking to the largely pagan greco-roman audience. I will read the book when I can! Good to know Mike is Sicilian!! So sorry about Father Trigilio.

I find it interesting that the liberals accuse the church of attacking and waging war on women, when the exact opposite is true.

It is the church that stands up for the dignity of women while the left want to degrade them, to sexualize them, to make them objects.

Husbands - love your wives as Christ loves the church. Lay down your life for her.
