Local for me!
Especially local sushi, Indian or local pub!

Normally I would agree, but after 2 months in Paris, you get homesick for the strangest things. My friend there pulled out good old blue box Kraft macaroni and cheese and I thought it was about the best thing I ever tasted . Of course, we did have it with a fresh rotisserie chicken and a crusty baguette. Best of both worlds!

Local, when possible.

I get it now. Your post made me remember something. After our honeymoon in St. Lucia, my new husband had to get Pizza Hut pizza in the airport as soon as we got back to the States. I took a picture of him happily eating pizza in the airport while waiting to catch our next flight. He doesn't eat much pizza these days, only when the kids get it when they have other kids over, but as a bachelor he ate a lot of pizza, so he really missed it while we were out of the country. Guess leaving and not being able to have his favorite pizza was a bit like going through withdrawal.

Re: Chain or local restaraunts, which do you prefer?
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say "chains!". It doesn't necessarily mean burgers and fries, Subway is one of my favorites. What can I say, I love fast food. Loved going to the Outback when we lived in the US. There are chains for everything really, and their prices beat the prices of local joints, at least where I live. It helps that we only eat fast food about once a month though. And for that once-a-month treat, yep, I will pick Wendy's sea-salted fries over the local obscure Mexican (or Thai or Indian) hole-in-the-wall!

I hear this. I lived in Paris for 2½ years and it's amazing the things you crave. I once paid the equivalent of $7 for one box of that Kraft stuff that I ordinarily wouldn't touch with a barge pole!
That said, local for me. We've got some great places around where I live, and I like plowing cash back into the community (many of the neighborhood restaurants are owned by people who live in town). We do eat more fast food than I care to admit, though.

Re: Chain or local restaraunts, which do you prefer?
We eat at local restaurants as much as possible which means except for traveling a long distance by car. We have found that local brewpubs usually have good food, good prices and not surprisingly good beer. We also shop at local farmer markets and make every effort to support local businesses as a matter of principle.

Local restaurants are pretty scarce near to home so we have no choice but to go to the chains; I don't mean fast food chains but quality restaurants.
