Eastern Saints

I'm Roman Catholic, but I'm becoming very interested in the deep spirituality of the Eastern Catholic and Orthodox tradition. I've been praying daily from the great 'Publican's Prayerbook,' put out by the Melkite Eparchy of Newton MA. I'm very interested in learning more about the saints of the Eastern tradition, who sometimes sadly get neglected by those of us in the Western Church. Can anyone recommend a good anthology of the writings of the Eastern Saints? Thanks!

The Philokalia and the Sayings of the Desert Fathers might be a nice start. You might want to start with the Sayings though.

I'd suggest the Sayings of the Desert Father as our brother Credo has already mentioned. Personally I'd wait on the Philokalia as it can be rather convoluted and extreme due to the detachment between eras and monasticism v. laity. Someone once recommended on the monachos forums as a reading order, if you're seriously interested, The Sayings of the Desert Father, the Evergetinos, then the Philokalia. The Evergetinos is a complete series of all of the sayings of the desert fathers and mothers. Furthermore, although it is written anonymously and loosely pertains to the saints, you can never go wrong with The Way of the Pilgrim.

Readings on the saint/s of the day appear in the Synaxarion. If you subscribe to a daily readings email such as the one from the Greek Orthodox or the one from the Melkites both the scripture readings and the synaxarion reading for the day are included. There are probably apps with similar daily features.
