I don't think I handled the situation the same way that Jesus would have. Leaving out the expletives..... I told him to leave immediately or I would kill him. Adrenaline was high. I don't think Jesus would hold this against you. Had he been a beggar at your door asking for food, that would be a different story. [I assume "I would kill him" was the adrenaline talking].

If you're going to point a gun at someone, you need to be ready and willing to kill them. There is nothing more dangerous than a gun in the hands of someone not prepared to use them. This is when they get turned on their owners.

If you're going to have a gun around, know the laws of your state. Do a lot of research about 'Less Lethal' ammunition before you consider using it-- particularly legal implications. ''Less Lethal' will normally not kill a person but can under certain conditions. Look at the difference between involuntary manslaughter and homicide with a positive justification of self-defense. Talk to a laywer in your area with experience in self-defense cases.

If you're worried about security a gun is a last resort you use because locks/lights/alarms/warning signs/dogs were all defeated or ignored by the intruder and your life is in danger. Hard to justify, IMHO, employing something that may not do the job of keeping you and the loved ones you are responsible for alive.

As a tip- Police do not employ 'Less Lethal' rounds without a backup/second person with normal ammunition. That is because 'Less Lethal' often does not stop or incapacitate a person.

As I said earlier to the OP, goal in self-defense is to stay alive. Good to stay alive and stay out of court as well.

Since you had no clue if that intruder wanted to steal your TV or kill you- I think you handled the issue very well. Defending oneself when in danger is perfectly acceptable.

What does having a watchdog have to do with being a Christian? It is perfectly acceptable to protect your family by whatever means possible. If an intruder is in my home, he is not there to have tea with me. He is looking to steal my stuff and/or hurt my family. If I can scare him away without actually harming him (i.e. watchdog and/or pump action shotgun) then that IS charity.

Should an attacker get too close (which can happen VERY fast), a long gun is not what you want in your hands. In a struggle, leverage would not be your friend...Stick with the small stuff.
