Does anyone think suit acting is still liked by little kids
I short while ago I stumbled on a vid for a show called fo-fo-Figgley on youtube.Watching that makes me wonder if little kids still like shows with suit actors and puppets. There's shows like Yo Gabba gabba and In the night garden which makes I remember when I was little I would watch shows like Sesame street,Barney,Mr.Rogers and Mr.Dress-up where puppets and/or suit actors were used.I still have a soft spot in my heart for those shows esp.Barney .But I'd would also watch Power rangers where similar effects were used* but you know in a less didactic way.I'm asking this b/c I'm really curious 4 parent's opinions:in a time full of a much bigger use of non-live action effects do little kids still genuinely like such shows?.
*Part of the reason why tokusatsu (special effects) shows like still use such effects is that it is the campy charm of effects like suit acting, model cities and exaggerated explosions that ppl and little kids like them for, even in an age when they can easily switch over to extensive CGI use.

Re: Does anyone think suit acting is still liked by little kids
Considering the love for Sesame Street (and Elmo in particular), I'd say YES!

Re: Does anyone think suit acting is still liked by little kids
Alas, my two year old loves that schlock. I mean she squeals with absolute delight.
~sigh~
I have always disliked all that to the extreme.
I see this as an opportunity to give up my suffering (which watching that stuff is) to God.
My four year old giggles too. I have no idea why.

Re: Does anyone think suit acting is still liked by little kids
I have a preference for media that is based in reality. Puppets and characters that are fictional are fine to a point but excessive exposure could have a negative impact. Interacting with other people will help children develop communication skills in a more consistent manner.
Also, as media evolves, there is a tendency to amplify the stimilus it imparts. This can cause problems too. For example, children will more easily become bored if the TV is not on.

Kids need to play and interact with other kids. Seseme street used to be okay to watch but now it goes on for like 2 hours straight+all those commercials. Yo Gabba is very strange, if you would not watch it yourself do not let your kid watch it.

What makes you think only kids like that stuff? <--- small-time toku-fanboy

On the contrary, they still use CG for the really best bits.

I'm not sure what channel you're watching, but Sesame Street is still an hour long with no commercials on PBS. I dislike that there are more animated sequences than when I was a kid, but it's not terrible.
I agree that Yo Gabba Gabba is weird and I do NOT let my kids watch that. *shudder*

My kids (ages 1.5 & 3.5) LOVE Yo Gabba so I would say yes!
