Default House Democrat defends sex-selective abortions

From the Oklahoman:
Rep. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, a candidate for U.S. Senate, defended sex-selective abortions and criticized Senate Republicans for opposing abortions instigated because the fetus is a girl.

"To many cultures, particularly the Asian culture, this presented the propsect of a doctor grilling an asian woman for example," Hirono, a Japanese immigrant, said at the Netroots Nation convention. Hirono made clear that she did not oppose sex-selective abortions. "How can we criminalize a decision that should be up to the woman and her doctor?" she asked.
So if it's in the interest of cultural diversity, eugenics is perfectly OK, is that right?

BTW, for those who would criticize my use of the term "eugenics", above, see the definition:

the study of or belief in the possibility of improving the qualities of the human species or a human population, especially by such means as discouraging reproduction by persons having genetic defects or presumed to have inheritable undesirable traits (negative eugenics) or encouraging reproduction by persons presumed to have inheritable desirable traits (positive eugenics)
.

Obviously, being female is an undesirable trait for some folks.

If a conservative suggested this, he would be instantly branded a misogynist.

Sick how anybody could vote against the bill or defend their vote. Bill also opposed abortion based on race or color of the child:

The bill says doctors have no responsibility to determine a mother’s reason for abortion. Only a doctor that knows the reason could be charged:
Whoever knowingly -

(1) performs an abortion knowing that such abortion is sought based on the sex, gender, color or race of the child, or the race of a parent of that child … or attempts to do so, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both.

That's a shocker!

Planned (un)Parenthood also defends the procedure....

Quote:
This spokeswoman for Planned Parenthood Federation of America also told The Huffington Post that the organization condemns seeking abortions on the basis of gender, but its policy is to provide “high quality, confidential, nonjudgmental care to all who come into” its health centers. That means that no Planned Parenthood clinic will deny a woman an abortion based on her reasons for wanting one, except in those states that explicitly prohibit sex-selective abortions (Arizona, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Illinois).

Translation: We condemn the procedure, but will continue to do it, unless it is outlawed.

More support from the "progressives" at Slate.

"Why Pro-Choicers Should Be OK With Sex-Selection Abortions"

Quote:
..Strategically, it makes no sense to give in to this idea that there’s somehow something a little queasier about having an abortion for gender than, say, for money. These are equally legitimate reasons (or, if you are on the other side, equally illegitimate). One might make you uncomfortable in your gut, but it can’t make the movement hesitate. Because that hesitation—that pause of, well, yes this one is complicated, or, as Amanda says, this one is "unpleasant to contemplate"—makes it that much easier for so many of those other reasons (money, timing, work) to seem a little not-OK too.

Also, let’s just remember that we are talking about fetuses. No matter how many ultrasound pics get posted to Facebook, these are fetuses with female genitals or male genitals—not little girls and little boys. If pro-choicers object to aborting because of the sex of the fetus, aren’t we then saying that abortion is “murdering” girls? Aren’t we basically arguing that a fetus is not a blank slate but a future possibility? That is not the case to make if your goal is to protect abortion rights. Gulp for a second if you must, then get over it.

Prayers.

And don't forget to vote.

Eventually this evil will be removed.

Let's hope a greater one does not take its place.

Let's see if I understand this: we're going to fight against the "war on women" by permitting the targeted killing of females in the womb.

Got it.

Hi Brian,
I guess I'm just not smart enough to be a progressive.

Just when we thought the horror of abortion (a.k.a. murder) couldn't be any bigger of a slap in the face to a Holy God.......
We need to take it a step further and make it even more offensive to Him by saying that He doesn't know which gender a creation of His needs to be in His world, that's for US to decide.

We are so blessed that God does not unleash His Holy wrath on our country.......

Holy Mary pray for us sinners.....

Netroots Nation convention was horrendous. Standing ovation for women who got an abortion. A panellist said she hopes one day there is a 'Planned Parenthood on every corner.'

It's coming. It is a matter of time before there is a change from God's mercy...to God's justice. Be watchful.
