Oh, it's not so much as excessive devotion (which is, however, part of my irritation), as it is misuse of the written language. I can even just barely tolerate capitalized pronouns (and I only do so because it has become custom) with reference to God simply because in English, pronouns are not capitalized unless they begin a sentence or are part of a title. There's nothing irreverent about using lowercase pronouns to refer to God, much less our Lady.
So yes, this irritates me because:
1. It is an affront to English and I am a language nerd; and
2. It's excessive devotion and nothing excessive is good.
P.S. though: this post is about me, and I do not imply condemnation for those who do.
