Default Expanding limit on search history

Why are we limited to a user's most recent 1500 posts? Is there no way to search before that? (I have wanted, and been asked, to refer to earlier posts of mine, but it seems that is not possible)

P.S. I searched for this topic on this forum. Apologies if it's been asked & answered!
You may redirect me if it's been discussed.

Are you sure about that limit? I see you have over 6000 posts, but when I did a keyword search of your posts, I got 700 results going back to November 2008, which is when you joined.

I have seen where others are able to search back but I can't either.
When I do a search using my post, it goes back to June of this year and no farther.

Yet if I use the search of my name it goes back to Oct 2007.

If I use the advance search and user name, It goes back to Oct 3, 2007.

That is what I got just now. However, at other times it will not give me the same results.

Yes, sometimes the search function is balky. Most of the time it works as it should, but not always.

There is a workaround which has some advantages (and disadvantages.) It is possible to use Google.com to do searches here. Doing so actually allows more refinement of the search, since you can have multiple keywords, or even phrases, at the same time. The down side is that sometimes the results are to a thread, and not to your post, which requires manual winnowing. This can be a pain on long threads, but usually the post I am looking for is within ten or so posts of where the link took me.

The trick to using Google is that, after you type in your search terms, you add this phrase

site:forums.catholic.com

That phrase forces Google to restrict its search to Catholic Answers Forums.

For example:

"Pope Benedict" and Muslims and Dale_M site:forums.catholic.com

But I don't want to limit to key words, Dale. I miss lots of my posts in that event, because I contribute to so many subjects, and don't remember which key words were in all of my posts. Not a one-note poster.

Dale thanks for the information

The site was hacked at one point and a lot was lost. Is that why I can't seem to find some threads?
