In the Eastern tradition when a person is baptized & chrismated into the Church, the person gets a patron saint for whom they get named after. And in church when a person comes up for Holy Communion, rather then the priest calling them by their secular name (if their secular name differs from their Christian name), the priest calls them by their Christian name. Also, if a person enters the monastic life or gets ordained into the clergy, it's not uncommon for them to get another patron saint & therefore they are called by this new name.
