Default Happy Feast Day St. Lawrence !!!

He is my patron saint.

O glorious Saint Lawrence, Martyr and Deacon, who, being subjected to the most bitter torments, didst not lose thy faith nor thy constancy in confessing Jesus Christ, obtain in like manner for us such an active and solid faith, that we shall never be ashamed to be true followers of Jesus Christ, and fervent Christians in word and in deed.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be
V. Pray for us, O holy Lawrence,
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray.

Grant, we beseech Thee, Almighty God, the grace to quench the flames of our vices, Thou who didst enable blessed Lawrence to overcome his fiery torments. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is
the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.

St. Laurence, pray for us, that the flames of divine love may burn away all traces of vice within us, and that we may be practical and zealous in the service of the poor. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Is the St Laurence Seaway of the Great Lakes named after this person?

I thought it was cool the story of him when he was being burned on a grill. He told his executioners "You can turn me over now. I'm done on this side!"

May we all have as much courage as St. Lawrence, and be able to face persecution with such humor!

When I first glanced at that picture, I thought St. Lawrence was holding a basketball. He has that "athlete posing for Sports Illustrated" look to him.

I looked it up for you. It is named after the St. Lawrence river and the river is in turned named after St. Lawrence. So yes. From wiki :

".... the first European explorer known to have sailed up the St. Lawrence River itself was Jacques Cartier, during his second trip to Canada in 1535, with the help of Iroquoian chief Donnacona's two sons. As he arrived in the estuary on St. Lawrence's feast day, Cartier accordingly named it the Gulf of St. Lawrence.[7]"

It really made a big impression on me when I first read it. Sometimes my first reaction, and unfortunately, I still do this, when hearing stories of the saints that suffered a great deal is "pity" and those feelings are so ridiculous in the grand scheme of things. They are so happy now that we can't even imagine or describe their peace. Saints have their eye on the ball and ones like St. Lawrence proved this by making jokes. I think that is a great grace. He knew what was ahead of him. Like what St. Paul said, "Oh death where is thy sting?"
