Today, I saw the first two episodes of Gurren Lagann. How were they? GREAT. They honestly make me very hyped up for the series as it looks like its going to be one of the greatest things I will ever see. Has anone ehre seen Gurren Lagan?

Gurren Lagann is probably one of my favorite anime. It's not the most cerebral thing you'll ever watch, although towards the end things get a bit more serious. Nonetheless, it is definitely a fun adventure. However, I am curious as to where you watched the first two episodes because the series is no longer on Hulu, Netflix, or Manga Entertainment's YouTube channel. I would actually like to rewatch it at some point, but I cannot find a legitimate site that has it.

I watched it on justdubs . I don't know how morally reprehensible it is because the site does have adverts and what not. Sorry if I scandalized anyone ehre but I myself always watch fandubs and what not but at the same time, I do buy the DVD's the companies release just to support them. Besides, without those sites, 98% of the stuff funimation hosts isn't accessible to me because I'm outside of the US.

Re: Who loves anime here?
As I like this thread I'd really I've been worried that I'm losing my street/forum cred by having come here more often lately .Just kidding .Really though I'd like to at least make one posting not on this forum before school starts again next Monday for me.

Hmmm..didn't someone here (Mr.Slyvester?) mention in an old posting about not being interested in seeing deconstruction of Tom and Jerry?.Well I found one.Funny that, when that was mentioned b/c that made think about how years ago in the early 90's when DC was using the character Animal man to go off into some wild (pun intended) eventually Vertigo level there was a storyline called the Coyote gospel that vividly deconstructed the Looney tunes type of cartoon violence of characters getting hurt by painful things like boulders and gunshots. That story-line was done by someone who almost has as much of mixed reputation in Western comics as Alan Moore:Grant Morrison.
You know I like deconstructions when there well done and don't just do the stuff that ppl would foresee of having fantastical stuff happen IRL.I mean while I do know that the constant use of deconstructions has bad outcomes and *dark stuff which might make you a bit cynical a/o uneasy the next time you see an idealistic or generic run of the mill anime from the genre they still interest me.(Hey why hasn't it even occured to anyone that deconstructions don't have to be that way? .Oh is that a mistake is that what reconstructions are for?).
Not really b/c of that the negative consequences that happen "in and of themselves" but b/c it interesting to see someone's conception (when well executed) of what would happen if stuff from genres like the mon genre (Digimon tamers),magic girl genre (finished episode 5 of Madoka magica as I'm typing this) and mecha (Eva.. arguably -_-) would happen IRL.It's very intriguing to me.But you know there's been one genre that for some reason hasn't been put under the knife for some reason.Maybe ppl will be made uneasy after seeing it after and lucrativeness of the genre would drop like a rock ; .I'm refferring to shonen particulary and it's sub-genre
fighting shonen..

Theres a diffirence between skill and supernatural power. In Fullmetal Alchemist, the most of a powerup the heroes gain is for Alphonse to learn using Alchemy witohut the use of drawing circles. Other than that, the Elric Brothers still use their skill to win fights.

I'm quoting this again b/c this might come in handy > ; )
If DBZ was used as the template then it would send a message and everyone would know what genre is getting operated on. WHY in the world is there yet to be a deconstruction of the fighting shonen genre?.* Sigh* if I could oh the things I would do it.. .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRamB30E9mU.

Re: Who loves anime here?
Recently, I've taken to raiding the local FYE's anime section. Since they sell used DVDs and the inventory turnover rate for new stuff isn't high, there's plenty of older shows there (they still have Geneon stuff). Most of the anime I've bought from them lately, though, is used. I managed to find the first disc of the original Oh My Goddess OVA used (I already own the second), and I also stumbled upon an anime called Brigadoon (also used), which is...interesting.
Also, I bought the DVD collection of Mobile Suit Gundam 08th MS Team, one of my favorite stories from the Gundam series. I got it new for about $35. This apparently a steal, since I haven't seen it online for less than $100. Yay me! Yay low inventory turnover!
And I bought Steins;Gate part 2 from Best Buy a couple weeks back. Saving it for a bit.
At the moment, though, I'm trying to watch Penguindrum, which I also ordered.
So yeah, a lot of anime acquisition going on for me. How have y'all been?

I'll take the tsunderes, kuuderes, and derederes. You can have the yanderes.
Or at the very least, leave me the kuuderes. I like them.......usually.

Re: Who loves anime here?
I've been watching some pretty good anime lately. Magi, Blast of Tempest, and My Little Monster are really good, but K was probably my favorite anime of 2012. It had a gripping plot and characters that you could really care about. The writers definitely took the "show, don't tell" idea to heart. I'm glad there will be a second season because the ending was so bittersweet and there are so many questions that haven't been answered, though.
I've also been thinking about the ending of Death Note. One of the eyecatches in the last episode says that in the Death Note universe, everyone goes to nothingness when they die, and the manga version apparently made that even more explicit about it. I'm not sure what to think of that. Does a twist like that make a whole story blasphemous or something?
Finally, for some reason, trying to watch anime on Netflix is really difficult for me because the video and the audio keep going way out of sync. Has anybody else had this problem?
