How is 'r' pronounced in Latin?
Is it like an English r, or Spanish, or Italian, or French???

Re: How is 'r' pronounced in Latin?
It's flipped, but not rolled like in Spanish. It almost sounds like a "d".

Re: How is 'r' pronounced in Latin?
I don't have time now, but when I do, I will look up the quote from my classical Latin book that refers to the "r" as a dog's growl. It's rolled.

Re: How is 'r' pronounced in Latin?
Okay, this is from Wheelock's Latin, a textbook of classical Latin:
Quote:
|
r was trilled; Romans called it the littera canina, because its sound suggested the snarling of a dog.
