Re: William Lynch Found Not Guilty in Beating of Priest He Said Sexually Abused Him
Most High God, have mercy on us; and write Your law of love on our hearts and do not let it stand apart from Your mercy as if on tablets of stone--excepting those, of course, who adamantly choose the letter of the law. Let them, Lord, have it. AMEN

The letter of the law does not contradict the spirit of
The law. The problem with your position is that it violates the letter and spirit of the law.
There is no moral justification for beating an older man because of past experience. That is contrary to the civil law and the moral law. We obey the law because we love God.

Someone verbally attacked you on a message board? Kill them.
Someone's dog urinates in your yard? Kill them.
I just don;t get how our more liberal posters can defend it, after years of going after the death penalty and other such issues.
I'd like a list of what things we are allowed to murder someone for. Go.

This attack (he wasn't killed) was wrong in every way and the assaulter was committing a crime, not settling a score.

Thanks. I assume that means I can pummel my neighbor for his wayward dog's bladeer then? That's what we are being told.
Reading this topic next to the father/daughter/molester topic makes the inconsistencies of certain posters so ridiculous they should probably just avoid these topics. Picking and choosing morality and ethics based on how riled up you are is embarrassing on discussion boards.

There wasn't even the "excuse" of a heat-of-the-moment attack immediately following the supposed abuse.

At the time these molestations were happening, there wasn't as much known about pedophilia as there is know. It was thought to be curable. It was thought to be treatable. Only over time have psychologists recognized that pedophilia isn't really curable after all. The Church has been accountable for the priests who have molested, and although it is a horrendous tragedy, the actual numbers are VERY small. Compared with how many molestations happen throughout society, to focus on the Church the way the media has, is dishonest of them and shows their anti-Catholic bias.

We can only hope that pedophiles (or, as was more common, ephebophiles) aren't getting past the seminary screenings.
I have been convinced that there were those so evil that they purposely entered seminaries/sought ordination knowing full well that they would have nearly unfettered access to naive victims (e.g., the evil Paul Shanley and others in the Archdiocese of Boston, where I grew up.)
It is also not true that no one had an idea that these perverts could not be rehabilitated; our family's good friend in Massachusetts, Fr. Gerald Fitzgerald, was a voice crying in the wilderness about this decades before anything ever came to light: http://documents.nytimes.com/father-...iest-sex-abuse
As far back as the early 1940s he told my great-aunt of his fears. At least one good bishop, Bishop Brady of Manchester, N.H., also realized the seriousness of the threat and tried to convince his brother bishops as far back as 1957.
What is illustrated by the jury's acquittal is how disgusted most people, Catholic or not, are by the actions of the small percentage of priests who committed these atrocities, which were then compounded by the inaction of the official Church. If this has brought anti-Catholic bigots out of the woodwork, made Catholic-bashing a safe pursuit, and led juries such as this one to give victims a pass, those in the Church who allowed the abuse and obfuscation to continue have only themselves to blame. Their "circle the wagons" mentality has cast a shadow on all the good, holy priests out there, and it is shameful.
I am a lifelong, orthodox Catholic, and this issue absolutely makes my blood boil, especially knowing how Fr. Fitzgerald tried to get those in power to listen.

How would you feel if it was your son or daughter?

We don’t know that. We do know that he beat up on the priest. But in today’s climate the priest is considered guilty of some offense, even if there is no evidence of that.

Re: William Lynch Found Not Guilty in Beating of Priest He Said Sexually Abused Him
For those who are uneasy about the inference of guilt evidenced by substantial settlements, and the subsequent besmirching of the reputation of accused clerics, please lobby for the removal of the statute of limitations on sex crimes against minors that these cases may be tried in a court of law without being stymied by any stalling tactics. Further inform your bishops that it is your wish that no more cash settlements be made in any case that can be adjudicated in a court of law.
Here is the link to Bella Dodd's School of Darkness. Dodd was an avowed Communist who realized the global financiers were colluding with the Communist Party of the USA to enslave the masses. This is illustrated today in Chicago's School of Darkness colluding with convicted felon George Soros & Family. Bella Dodd converted to Catholicism and was baptized by Bishop Sheen. Here is the text of her autobiography, including her contention that the CPUSA infiltrated 1,100 men into seminaries; not Communists, but men unfit to uphold the duties of the priesthood. That doubtless included the morally intransigent. If true, they would also protect fellow travellers in their decades of disservice.

It is painful to recognize that an adult man could be driven so mad by childhood sexual torture that he would seek to have a written confession to validate his horrific experience and calm his mind; and that he could instantly resort to violence when his (alleged) attacker merely leered at him. It is even more painful to realize that this priest would not be laicized after multiple accusations of attacks on children, and would enjoy the comforts of a Church retirement home. Would the victims' passing lie detector tests quell the unrest?
There are irresistible impulses as with the now-grown man; and impulses that are not resisted as with this pattern of serial rape. The jury has found no crime; and our Judge may find no sin if Lynch's act was committed in the throes of a kind of insanity. Acute abuse, especially in children, literally damages the brain. Christ gave His warning to those who scandalized the young--which the Dallas Charter quoted as a prophecy fulfilled in our time--and it is a fate more hopeless than having a millstone tied around the neck and being dumped in the deepest part of the ocean. May Jesus Christ grant His healing for hearts and minds, bodies and souls. May justice and mercy kiss. May the Blessed Virgin Mary, "pierced with a sword of sorrow that the thoughts of all may be revealed" by all the virtue of her Immaculate Heart, expose all thoughts to the cleansing fire of her Son, Jesus Christ's Sacred Heart and present the Church before Him as His spotless Bride.

It may have been wrong but I understand. I'm shocked that there not much outrage of the fact the priest was a sexual predator.

The ends do not justify the means. Either we are Catholics and accept the Lord's teaching or we are no better than the abusers. There is no excuse to attack another as happend here.
