Celestial Intelligences in Medieval Philosophy
I'm helping a friend out with a research paper regarding Celestial Intelligences, those theoretical beings posited by Aristotle to be the dynamic force behind his Celestial Spheres cosmology.
Originally related as a bunch of "unmoved movers" - the influence of Plotinus seems to have changed their character.
I was wondering if anyone would happen to know of any medieval (Christian/Jewish/Muslim/etc) [hilosophilcal/theological attempts to tackle the issue of Celestial Intelligences and if there were attempts to either
1.) Deny their Existence
2.) Correlate them with an Angelic hierarchy like that found in Pseuo-Dionysus the Areopagite's Celestial Hierarchy
3.) Identify them as something different from Angels. Like the Decani or the persist belief in the Fair Folk during the middle ages.
Thank you.
