Default What are Vienna Sausages made of?

Does anyone on the Forum eat them? And I was wondering, given the name. Do they actually originate in Vienna Austria?

They seem kinda humble, to have such a distingushed cultural pedigree.

I eat Vienna Beef hot dogs. But those come from Chicago, over on Fullerton at the factory.

From what I remember, they were made of pork, chicken and beef parts. They ground the meat until it became almost like a dough or batter and then would put them in these long cylinders and they would smoke them. They're basically almost prepared the same as hotdogs except they don't have a casing. Then they add chicken broth into a can and pack them up. As far as their origin, I have no clue. I would guess they were from Austria. Since Austria is very known for their sausage making.

They're pretty gross and vulgar in my own opinion. I shudder to think of them. Eww... mushy and stinky.

A couple of years ago. Me and a Friend were fishing. It was A very hot humid day, Typical for south Louisiana. He pulled out A can that had been in the sun. I tried to eat one. That was the nastiest thing I ever tasted. Hot,mushy, stinky!

As for the "parts" they are made of. I am afraid to ask.

Livers, hearts etc... Bite into one and feel something hard... could be a chicken beak, claw or pig nail. Ho ho ho! Just kidding! Or am I?

Sawmill lunch - Viennas and a pack of saltines. Just looked at a can and they no longer identify the parts they use, just mechanically deboned chicken, beef and pork. I remember when they listed the parts and, like most sausages, they use the parts you wouldn't think of eating as a separate dish: tripe, ears, lips, snouts, etc., which, incidentally, are the same parts that go into all-meat dog food. The dog food does include a few other parts such as lungs that can't be sold for human consumption.

Viennas are beef only and along with beer and chocolate and are proof that God loves us and wants us to enjoy the pleasures of fine dining. Look-alike products made by some other manufacturers (who shall remain nameless, but who have a penchant for advertising their products from big hot dog shaped cars) can not make these same claims and persons are warned to eat at their own risk.

It takes a brave brave soul to ask this question and gracefully accept the answer.
