Default I would play-by-post D&D:

Multiple choice in case more than one edition is acceptable.

I voted 2nd ed and 3.5. More familiar with 2nd edition and I'm not happy with TSR/D&D since they were taken over by WOC.

Well, so far (I know ... too early to call), 2nd ed looks like a common meeting ground.

Not that I know of. But there has got to be people around your town that play, are looking to play or are looking for more players. You should check out some RPG internet forums for people seeking players or players looking to start a new campaign. You can check out the Wizards of the Coast website by doing a Google Search. I would post the URL, but I don't want to hear anyone's complaints about it. Since the AD&D subject seems to be a bit touchy.

There are also computer games, but they aren't as fun as the real thing.

Are there any computer games that simulate the board game. Like a d&d computer bord game?

well D&D is short for Dungeons and dragons which was a fantasy board game created around the 70's i think. Its contrversial because the characters in the game are said to have a satanic element, i.e. elves and goblins. The game is played with a 20 sided dice(yeh im serious) and has to be one of the most realistic fantasy board games of all time. People are have said to be so involved that if a character they have been with for a couple of weeks dies, they commit suicide.
If i have given any wrong info about the game correct me.

Well, for the most part, there is no "board" in the game. The suicide issue is actually false (there was a suicide involving a player, but despite the mother's beliefs, there were quite a few other signs that indicated that playing D&D was not a factor in the son's act). There are several different-sided dice (although on-line, you do not need to have your own physical dice)--4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 20 sided.

Play-by-post is a great way to play if you have limited time (you can squeeze in 15 minutes here and there to read the other posts and reply) and/or can't find a group you mesh w/ well in the local area.

If you'd like to know more, if we get a game off the ground here, try lurker status (you can always join the game as a player later if it looks enjoyable). The game typically takes place in a fictional medieval-esque setting.

Is anyone here planning to organize a PBP game? If so, Reepicheep wants in.

Edit: I see Melissa is thinking of playing also.

Well--if there's enough interest to float a game (all in the same edition), I think our next step is to see who's willing to DM and then get a game going.

My preference for site is PlayByWeb, as I know all the ins and outs of the technical parts of running a game there.

Wouldn't we all need a copy of the rule book to play by post?

I still need to learn how to play - I'm a newbie to RP's and some ppls have started showing me some basic stuff but I still don't know rules for spells and combat yet, etc.

It is pretty much all here and free:
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/welcome

Everyone could grab a copy of the System Reference Documents (SDR)
and the Gamemaster could set any personal campaign paramenters (acceptible classes, genre/theme, etc

There are even sites that you register with (wizards of the coast even has one) to authenticate computer generated rolls for all to see and the Gamemaster to confirm.

Being organized upfront and having all the basics of the campaign clearly spelled would be essential.

I would be interested in possibly playing in this and after I move in a couple months, even helping with the campaign creation.

(I am an experienced gamer that has ran campaigns, played many systems, created systems, done LARP, and been very active in the gaming community in the past)

I hope to see what happens here and if it gets serious (SERIOUS FUN!)
I shall monitor this thread

Peace
btw I am new here, so "hi"
