Canadian Thanksgiving on Oct. 9th would you all please share your recipes?
Hi all,
we have thanksgiving coming up on Oct. 9th. I'd like you all if you want, to share your turkey recipes, and stuffing recipes, as well as potatoes, and whatever else you all cook for this favorite holiday of mine

Re: Canadian Thanksgiving on Oct. 9th would you all please share your recipes?
Here is one of my recipes for old fashioned stuffing:
2-3 stalks of celery
1 teaspoon of sage
1 lemon ( cut in half for squeezing )
salt and pepper
1 loaf of dried bread or croutons
1 egg
1/2 an white onion
I cut up the celery stalks into cubes, put them in a large bowl
add the salt and pepper and bread or croutons, squeeze the lemon juice over the mix, add the sage, onion, and egg and mix it all together!
Here is my turkey recipe:
medium to large sized turkey depending on how many people we serve.
Completely let it thaw out. When it does, I remove the inner parts that they put in a bag inside the turkey.
I sprinkle sea salt on the turkey, then rub the turkey down with honey. I let it cook for about 1 and a half hours per kilo.
My side dish:
Green beans, yams, and carrots.
Desert:
Pumpkin pie with whipping cream!
All in all, makes for a wonderful dinner!
Thanks be to God!

On stuffing, I usually dice the bread (fresh) up the night before and add all the dry ingredients at that time. This allows the bread to absorb some of the flavor of the spices over night. Other than that, the suffing I make is essentially the same except for no lemon juice.

It's an Australian thing - anyone we really like we find a silly nickname for. Of course the same goes for anyone we really dislike, which can lead to some confusion
I like the idea of Thanksgiving though ... perhaps I should start a petition to institute something similar here?? Or just celebrate it all by my lonesome

I am so glad that you have clarified what you eat on Thanksgiving. I did not realize how similar it was to the U.S.
I was having trouble trying to figure out the variety of ways to cook Canadian bacon and the various uses of Molson. Maybe saute-ing the bacon in Molson. But never thought about how the Tuk would fit into the whole celebration.

“Canucks” When I was a kid growing up in Michigan that’s what we called them.
One time after visiting my parents. I went into a store here in Texas and paid for some items. Some of the change I gave the checkout lady was Canadian Quarters. In Michigan we used them all the time. Man that lady got mad and thought I was trying to rip her off.

Don't get me started on old money switcheroo trick ... someone successfully fobbed me off with a Vietnamese coin the other day. I'm too honest to try to do the same to anyone else so I guess I'm stuck with it
