Default How long did Mary live on earth?

I read somewhere that she only lived few more years after Jesus was crucified. It explained why there is nothing much told about her in the Acts of the Apostles. But according to Franciscan, she lived 72 years (72 beads of Franciscan Crown Rosary).

So how long did Mary live on earth?

According to the Acts of the Apostles, the Blessed Virgin Mary, was accompanied by the Apostles when the Holy Spirit descended upon them in the upper room in Jerusalem.

What we know of after is from Tradition. Our Heavenly Mother lived some 10-20 yrs after St. John took her into his home. Of course, we may never know the exact number but it was a number of years. I've never heard about her possible age.

I love the Blessed Virgin so much.

What little we know of Her life is truly inspiring - so obedient and deeply pious.

She was 15 when the Angel Gabriel talked to her, Jesus lived for 33 years. 15+33 = 48, which mean there were about 24 years, if she died at the age of 72. But St. Luke only explained about the Pentecost and nothing else.

Before I read about the Franciscan Crown Rosary, I always thought that she only lived 4-5 years after the crucifixion (I think a priest told me).

Well, I'm just curious whether there is tradition that explain what happened to her before the assumption. or may be there's a book about it?

The OP is correct. Catholic tradition says that Mary lived to be about 72 years of age. This would have placed her death around 58Ad, give or take a few.

well when was the year the book of Acts was written? was it written during
the time she was alive? or was it written after? if it was written during her life on earth, and she was about 15 when the angel appeared to her, add 33 years to 15 and you have 48 years, when did the Holy Ghost appear in the room? approximately how long after Christ ascended into heaven? you can then try to think how long a time period that was, and then add her age of about 48 to it, and you have the answer i would think.

I've heard 72, and I've heard 63, but these seem to be later pious traditions.

The traditional story of her death (vague in details) has "the Apostles" all come when she died (and Thomas arrives late only to find her empty tomb)...does that mean none of them had died yet? When was the earliest Apostle martyred? Because alledgedly they were all alive at the time of her death and Assumption...

Point well made. The Apostles or most of them were there to witness the Dormition of our Lady the Mother of God. Tradition doesnt mention the number of Apostles that attended the demise of the Blessed Mother but it does state that Thomas was still alive. Apostles were counted in the original 70 as well in those days so she may have been in her 70's when she died.

In my book on Biblical chronology, Important Dates in the Lives of Jesus and Mary, I conclude that Mary died, rose, and was assumed 15 years, 2 months, and some number of days after Jesus' ascension.

This is based largely on the writings of Blessed A.C. Emmerich.

Her age from conception to death was 63 years, 8 months, and some days.

the figure 72 i think comes from Ven. Mary of Agreda, whose writings I have not found to be chronologically accurate.
