Exercise Support Group--week of 11/5/06!
Hi everyone...well yesterday was a great workout day for me, as I posted in last week's thread...but today? Ugh..too busy...and frankly, I'm quite worn out and sore from that spinning video...if anyone knows (like autumn) the intensity to which the Spinervals and Runervals videos are, you'd understand my pain today. But, it's not an injury type pain, but just a sore pain. Sore in my core again, autumn... And my arms too from holding myself up for the intervals...but oh well...no pain, no gain. Today, I went grocery shopping and made low cal/low carb/homemade pumpkin (with our garden pumpkins!) so it's organic as well...pies! So, I was active...actively baking.
I might do some weights later, or a yoga video that I have...we shall see. Make it a great week, all...talk to you soon!
My goals for this coming week...
8-9 miles of running
3 days for ab work
3 days for free weights
15 + miles for biking
I hope I can make them happen! Only by God's grace....

Re: Exercise Support Group--week of 11/5/06!
hey...HEY!!! where is everyone today?
Well...maybe ya'll are just keeping a diary, and going to post a long long long long post about all the workouts you've been doing...right?
Ok--I worked out after work today. I did the elliptical for 2.5 miles...it was brutal...something about that machine that just makes me sooo tired...but I should sleep like a baby, tonight. Also, did a short but productive free weights workout for arms.
Hope to hear from some of you this week!

Didn't know there's an exercise support group here; guess I'll join in then. Hopefully I can contribute something substantial here...

Welcome to the thread, Milliardo! Please join in at any time...nice to have you here.
Hi katie--always nice seeing you!
I'm not working out tonight--voted, and Tuesday is the only night my church has Reconciliation, so I plan on going up there after dinner. Have a good one, all!

Re: Exercise Support Group--week of 11/5/06!
Just worked out this morning. I have my own small gym here at home--quite complete, in most respects. I used to also have a treadmill and stationary bike that I gave away, since I barely used them. What I use often is my multi-position bench, barbell, and dumbbells. My bench also has a lat stand, so I do my back exercises there.

The staff thought about that. Can you see delivering a baby on skates?? The halls are long and slightly curved. We could have fun!

Re: Exercise Support Group--week of 11/5/06!
I'd like to know what everyone's program is. Mine isn't much:
flat bench press
bent-over rows
barbell curls
military press
leg extensions
standing barbell calf raises
crunches
I do 3 sets, 10 reps of each, except in the calf raises where I only do 1 set for 21 reps. Crunches I go as high as 250 reps, for 1 set.

oh wonderful! a weight lifter is among us--yay! I try to incorporate arm workouts, and squats with free weights, and I have an ab machine. (like a cruncher type) I love the feeling of my arm workouts after it's over, but after a strenuous cardio routine, I sometimes feel like the weights will just do me in. Do you have advice on splitting weight lifting with cardio? I know some who do the weight lifting on 'off' cardio days. I mainly do elliptical and running...but I also do spinning (bike aerobics) too.
I think that your workout sounds great. Are you trying to lose weight...or bulk up...?

I'm trying to gain mass first, then later on I'll get into definition. I'm not after the contest-type of look; not at my age anyway. I think I'm past that stage. Al I want is somethng that will look good, period. It doesn't necessarily have to look like I'm preparing for a bodybuilding contest.
Splitting weights with cardio--it depends on your goals. I do more weights that aerobics, for instance. The opposite might be true for those who are trying to slim down. In general, I want to achieve a balanced look--muscular, but one that still looks good. I am always amazed with women who can achieve that balance of muscularity without being intimidating. Of course, for us guys having bigger muscles would be something. So, anyway, to split between aerobics and weights, define your goals first. Once you know what you want to achieve, it's relatively easy to make a program around that goal or goals.

I too like the effects of weight lifting...but struggle with staying consistent. HOWEVER, I did manage to do my arm workout, ab workout, and some squats tonight, using my free weights. I like free weights a bit better than machines, because it takes more balance to manipulate the weights, and that also works muscles you might not even be intending to work. I'm feeling shaky now...you know that feeling? lol It's a good shaky feeling, but you feel like your muscles are jumping under your skin. I also power walked and threw in some fast sprints, roughly 2 miles tonight....put the incline on my treadmill to 6... ...it was like walking up a huge flight of stairs...it was great!
Hope everyone else is working out as well--pretty soon...Thanksgiving will be here...and remember...we can indulge a bit more if we are keeping up with our workouts! As I have learned the hard way in life...consistency is the key to winning this game. Blessings to all.

Great that you enjoy working with free weights. How long have you been working out? I have been lifting since 1990. Long time, but it's not consistent, either. I had periods that I didn't workout for 6 months or so.

Hey Milliardo....
I have been working out for like the past 10 years. I'm 37, but didn't really need to work out until my late twenties. I enjoy it for the most part, but there are times when I slack off for a few weeks...when this board was down for a while, I slacked off for nearly a month...but I'm sincerely trying to workout 5 days per week, sometimes it can be only 3 - 4...depending on my schedule...cardio, with weights twice per week. It can be challenging during flu season, because sometimes I get a bug, and it throws everything off...but I'm trying to stay committed. It's something that beings us closer to God...taking care of our bodies. I don't think we should obsess or do it for vanity, but I think that God wants us to be active, and eat right. So...
My report tonight? No workout. Tonight is typically my off night, as I'm pretty tired from the workweek. Tomorrow is another day though...planning on doing spinning on the bike!
Nice seeing you tonight, Milliardo. Keep up the good work.
