Re: Exercise Support Group--week of 11/12/06
Well yesterday was the championships, and we did well as a team, though not well enough to advance. I ran one of my best races ever, though, and moved up two spots on our seven-man team, so it was a great day.
Now that the season's over and there's a two month gap between cross country and track, it's going to take quite a lot of willpower to keep in shape... the temptation to gorge myself on junk food and just vegetate is almost overwhelming.
I'll see what my coach has in store for me tomorrow, maybe he's already got an off-season program planned

Had my off day yesterday; now it's Monday again, so I'm off to working out later...

Re: Exercise Support Group--week of 11/12/06
yay for onlyambrose! awesome...! if you need some help staying on track (pun intended hee hee) during the off season, look into Coach Jacobsen ....google him. He is a triathlete...he competes in Iron Man competitions, etc...and he has a newsletter that I subscribe to whereby he discusses techniques for staying fit during the off season. That might help?
Well...I didn't work out today. I really strained my back, doing these arm lifts...you know when you bend forward, and pull down and then back. ugh. I thought I'd feel better today, but my neck is even strained. I must be doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what. So, my body needed the rest.
I have to be up at the church tomorrow night for a meeting, so...I might not workout now until Tuesday. I mean, I could get up as early as Michael Welter...lol Not!
Speaking of Michael...yoohoo...where are you, Michael?

Rest is good. Sometimes you need it to recuperate, get that body to take a break and just relax. A week off is good if you've been working out consistently. You actually come back stronger after that break.

Re: Exercise Support Group--week of 11/12/06
yes--agree. maybe i just needed a rest.
just had a presentation at work here, by a Bronze and Silver medalist in the paralympics. wow...he was inspiring! He trained with Lance Armstrong....so, we can do anything when we offer it up to God, and allow Him to give us the strength and courage to never quit! He passed out dvd's of the movie, 'Murderball,' which is an Oscar nominated documentary on how people with disabilities make it to the Paraylmpics...I encourage you all to check it out, when you have some time.
have a good week...I'll post back tomorrow.

Re: Exercise Support Group--week of 11/12/06
Well, I started the week out with just a bit less than 10 miles walking. I really hope to get 50 miles this week. Here's hoping!

Hey, everyone . . . did you miss me? Today I worked out for the first time in over a week. There was no time during my conference in San Fransisco. Then, after I got back, I had to make a quick trip to Santa Barbara. We're moving this weekend, so we spent this last weekend packing, and packing, and packing. I guess that was quite a workout.
BTW, pray for the move, please. We need escrow to close on Thursday, and right now, it may not happen until Friday. There's a slight chance that it won't happen until Monday or Tuesday, which would be a disaster. So, please pray that escrow closes on Thursday.
My goal for this week is to survive.

Re: Exercise Support Group--week of 11/12/06
Today, I think I'll do some jogging. One thing that's lacking in my workout is aerobics; I concentrate more on anaerobic activities like lifting weights than aerobic, so I'll add one more day to my aerobic activity to raise it up a bit.

Re: Exercise Support Group--week of 11/12/06
I'll definately look into him, whatevergirl, thanks for the tip!
We ran a non-competitive timed mile today to gauge where we are now and plan where we'd like to be by the end of the year. I ran a 4:54, which is no where near what I should be running right now, but to be fair to myself I'm not in shape for the 1-mile, I'm still in the long-distance mode.
My goal for the end of the season is to get below 4:30. Lofty, I know, but I'm going for it. I never expected to be on varsity in my life, so I suppose anything can happen at this point

Oh . . . to be young again. Sounds like you're doing great. Keep up the good work.
I ran 2 miles on the treadmill this morning. I didn't want to, as my body was just feeling drained. But I made it through just fine.

I've always found it far more enjoyable tor run... somewhere instead of on a treadmill, personally. If you can find a nice two mile loop or something near where you live, I think you may find it far more refreshing & relaxing, and a scenery change is always nice.

Normally I do run outside, as I live in a nice neighborhood. However, when I have to visit my company's main office, which is fairly rare, I go in real early to beat the traffic, and run on the treadmill in the gym there.
When we move to our new house, running outside won't be an option anymore, as we'll be living on the side of a mountain, and the terrain is afr too steep for me to run on.

Re: Exercise Support Group--week of 11/12/06
I ran another two miles on the treadmill this morning. That'll be it for the week. Tomorrow is our move, somewhat. We still haven't closed escrow yet, but the builder has agreed to give us access to the garage at the new house so we can move all our stuff there. But we'll still be in the old house for a few more days.

Re: Exercise Support Group--week of 11/12/06
nice to see you all....*sniffle* *sob*...you're not going to believe this...i'm still reeling from it...i have a stress fracture in my right heel!!!! omg...i cannot even believe this. last week, i ran pretty hard on Thursday night...was great. I felt great...nothing out of the norm, except, that I've noticed my treadmill doesn't seem to have much 'give,' but i finished the workout. the next day (which would be last friday) my heel started hurting...and then...it just kept getting worse, and now...? i can barely walk. i mean, i went to work and all, but it's a stress fracture. i need to heal for like 3 weeks. the good news is, i have a bike...and will just do that workout (spinning...oh joy)...3-4 times a week to get the cardio in, and i can still stick with the weight lifting, too. but, as far as power walking/running...i'm done for 3 weeks. and if it doesn't get better in 3 weeks...i have to wear a walking cast. i'm only 37...not 87!!!
anyways...that's why i haven't been reporting here much...but i will do the bike, and refrain from standing (pedaling while standing)...since that might even put a strain on my heel.
thanks for listening...keep up the good work!!!
